White House Officials Deny Delaying Pro-Life Actions Until After Election

White House officials have denied a report that Chief of Staff Susie Wiles pressed Attorney General Todd Blanche to hold off on abortion-related Justice Department actions until after the 2026 midterm elections.

Pro-life leaders said any such delay would leave unborn children on a political calendar while abortion pills continue to end their lives every day.

The Washington Sun reported Oct. 2 that senior White House officials, led by Wiles, told Blanche in a series of discussions to move slowly on abortion-related actions before November. A senior administration official, not authorized to speak publicly, said Wiles warned that an aggressive approach would draw unwanted attention and could alienate voters.

“No one wants us taking any real action before the midterms,” the official reportedly said.

The White House has rejected the account.

“This is completely false. These conversations never occurred between White House officials and DOJ officials,” the administration told the Sun. White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis repeated that denial to the Washington Examiner.

Pro-life advocates said the reported pause is unacceptable because the children at risk cannot wait for Election Day.

“Unborn children cannot be put on a political calendar. Their lives do not become more valuable after Election Day,” Live Action President Lila Rose wrote on X.

Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins wrote that the report meant “more babies will die because swampy consultants still lead the GOP astray,” adding, “Lives are at stake now, not after an election. Abortion does not pause for Washington’s political calendar.”

The Sun also reported that administration officials have told pro-life leaders any action would come after the midterms.

“Once the midterms are over and it’s truly lame-duck time, we’ve heard the gloves will be off,” one conservative in touch with the administration said.

Tom McClusky, director of government affairs for CatholicVote, said he has heard “the same thing from every agency I talk to and from members of Congress,” and that “it’s always that nothing’s going to happen until November.”

Kristi Hamrick, vice president of media and policy for Students for Life, said, “Everything but the election is pushed until after the elections.”

A source familiar with the matter told the Sun that Justice Department officials have said any move to enforce the Comstock Act — the 1873 law barring the mailing of “every article or thing designed, adapted or intended for producing abortion” — would wait until after the election. The source said the department is “actively working on it.”

A Justice Department spokesperson, asked about the reported meetings, called President Donald Trump “the most pro-life president in history” but did not address the meetings.

“The Department of Justice represents [the Food and Drug Administration] in these matters, and FDA is continuing to review the safety data for mifepristone,” the spokesperson said. “We asked the courts to stay these cases while that review is ongoing. Should the Department learn of possible fraud or harm to women involving these drugs, we will investigate those matters.”

The department has asked federal judges to pause lawsuits seeking to restrict mifepristone abortion pills until that FDA review is finished, the Sun reported. During Sept. 9 arguments in Louisiana v. FDA before the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Justice Department attorneys declined to state the administration’s position on the pills until the study is complete, the Daily Caller reported.

Abortion pills accounted for about 642,700 abortions in 2023, or 63 percent, according to the Guttmacher Institute. In addition to killing hundreds of thousands of babies, they are injuring tens of thousands of women.

Blanche said at his July confirmation hearing that he opposed mail-order abortion pills and was committed to enforcing the Comstock Act. The Sun, citing Politico, also reported that Blanche told faith leaders on an August call that the administration was working to ensure abortion was banned “in every single state.” He has made no public statements on abortion since the summer.

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser said her group still expects him to act.

“Based on Attorney General Blanche’s testimony during his confirmation, we have hope and are expecting that swift action will be taken to stop mail-order abortion drugs that are undermining pro-life state laws across the country,” she said. “Every day that goes by more women are coerced and harmed and more unborn children die. We are past due for action.”

The Washington Examiner reported Sunday that some pro-life advocates have little confidence significant action will come even after November, and that they have heard Wiles has been an obstacle.

“This is exactly what we’re hearing, that Susie’s been a bit of a roadblock,” one source familiar with the matter said. Another pro-life leader told the Examiner, “I find it very accurate to say that the DOJ has, in fact, just been a friend to the abortion industry by saying ‘let’s just leave everything alone until later.’”

Gavin Oxley, external affairs director for Americans United for Life, told the Examiner, “Nothing has changed about the way the White House is approaching abortion. They’re just finally saying the quiet part out loud.”

Penny Nance, president and CEO of Concerned Women for America, said, “We are glad that the Trump Administration knows that the Biden Administration unlawfully allowed abortion pills to be mailed, putting women in harm’s way and at risk of being coerced into taking abortion pills against their will.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.

So will White House officials then be taking action BEFORE the election?

Of course not.

Neither will Trump take any pro life action after the election as well. Trump has always been a supporter of abortion drugs sent through the mail. Even to pro life states who don't want them.

Except under his administration the only significant changes to national abortion laws happened in the last 60 years, no?

But Trump isn’t on the ballot right?

Agreed. This is meant to divide the Republican vote ... hoping short memories forget that it wasn’t too long ago that we’d thought Roe would never be overturned.

This is how you create a black market.

There was a time in history...circa 1910... that abortion was illegal in EVERY state.

Its amazing the level of desertion thats being advocated now on FR. Its as if people just don’t care about the country but only because they have resentments that not everything went their way.

In GA Faith&Freedom and Students for Life are the only grassroots effective groups in our coalition. What do they want that they are not getting now?

Since they are the ONLY groups in GA doing anything, Why are they motivated to do something and the 2A, America First, and other factions seem to be doing nothing for the election?

Lindsay Graham’s loud espousal of national ban om abortion prior to 2022 midterm helped abort the red wave. Anything DOJ does now will be twisted by media to DEM propaganda

“ Neither will Trump take any pro life action after the election as well. Trump has always been a supporter of abortion drugs sent through the mail. Even to pro life states who don’t want them.”

Please provide proof

Trump has initiated and carried through getting rid of Roe V Wade via Dobbs. It was a gigantic effort

The Supreme Court allowed this disgusting abortion pharmaceutical via mail order

Lifesite and everyone else that gets in my ear about Trumpmnot doing anything about abortion can shut it

If they want to pretend Trump
Makes abortion political they’re idiots. Abortion has always been political.

The people in this country want abortion. Whatever statement you’re making about states not wanting the pill in nonsense. Or prove it

The people in this country want abortion.

People want abortion in this country we can hope the polls are fake on that but it has been consistent

Many pro life people want Trump to be a preacher and convert everyone as if that’s in his oath of office. It is t

He cannot do any more about abortion right now.

The midterm is more important. And the pro abortion people have power

Geeze

His administration - both of his administrations - has taken many, many pro-life actions.

It just doesn't matter - no matter what happens - the narrative just remains the same.
