Longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone told Newsmax on Friday that newly declassified records point to CIA foreknowledge of the Watergate break-in, as a Justice Department review revisits prosecutor conduct in the 1972 scandal.
Appearing on "Ed Henry: The Big Take," Stone linked his longstanding revisionist view of Watergate to a preliminary DOJ review examining whether the special prosecutor's office mistreated defendants connected to former President Richard Nixon.
Stone, a political operative who has written a book arguing the agency sabotaged the break-in, said "a couple of things" now support his view that the 37th president was wrongly brought down.
He pointed to records that he said show "the Central Intelligence Agency was well aware" of the planned burglary and claimed, "at least two of the Watergate burglars were still on the CIA payroll."
Stone also attacked U.S. District Judge John Sirica, who presided over the original trial, accusing him of "illegally and improperly violating his oath of office" by meeting with prosecutors outside the presence of defendants.
Stone argued that Sirica "would have been removed as a judge had that been known." The DOJ's Office of Professional Responsibility recently heard a two-hour presentation from former Nixon aide Geoff Shepard titled "Watergate as Lawfare," which argued special prosecutors Archibald Cox and Leon Jaworski met secretly with judges and withheld evidence from the defense.
A Justice Department spokeswoman said the invitation reflected Shepard's scholarship and did not constitute a formal investigation.
Vice President JD Vance made a similar argument at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in June, saying Watergate was the story of "how the deep state took down" the 37th president.
Stone echoed the framing: "Nixon was set up by the same deep state forces that tried to take Donald Trump down."...

Wasn’t the supposed deep throat figure a guy that had been passed over for a promotion at the CIA?
I’m sorry, I meant this FBI not the CIA.
Why does anyone still take this pervert seriously?
Most of the guys involved in the break in were in the CIA at one point and probably still were.
Just like the Bob Woodward at the Washington Post was in Naval Intelligence. Deep Throat was the Deputy Director of the FBI. It was an inside job to bring down POTUS.
Some people have suggested it was because Dick asked: Who killed Jack?
Yes, that was Mark Felt of the FBI; mad at being passed over for Director, the worm worked with the two “reporters” for the WPost to get rid of the duly elected President. When Felt died and his identity as the so-called “Deep Throat” was revealed, his wretched family wanted money. Thirty pieces of silver would have done the trick.
Yes, but Watergate was when this sort of "wrap-up scandal" and cycle of lawfare was seemingly in its infancy.
By the time of Trump's "Russiagate" it was standard operating procedure, with half of Washington DC and all its media involved. Comey practically bragged about it.
That is the story. Mark Felt.
They knew about them. It was all theatrics to bring down Nixon. John Dean, Haldemenn, Erlichman……scum.
Liddy and Hunt were Agency guys. Of course the CIA knew about it. And Helms’ actions indicated the CIA was not looking to assist Nixon’s defense, for which he was later praised by other intel types like Stansfield Turner.
He pointed to records that he said show “the Central Intelligence Agency was well aware” of the planned burglary and claimed, “at least two of the Watergate burglars were still on the CIA payroll.”
Was Lee Harvey Oswald on the CIA payroll or given CIA support?
Interesting pattern here.
“Why does anyone still take this pervert seriously?”
You sound like someone on X referring to President Trump.
This isn’t a shocker.
Deep State couldn’t risk another assassination so soon after the last two.
Nixon made it easy for them.
The question really is why did Deep State want Nixon out and Ford in...
No. It was Mark Felt who was passed over at the FBI after Hoover died. Felt thought he should be the next director but Nixon brought in an “outsider” I.e. non Washington establishment candidate for the detectors job.
