Senator Flavio Bolsonaro took an early lead as Brazil began reporting results Sunday afternoon in the first round of a tight presidential election, after a campaign dominated by corruption scandals, economic anxiety, and accusations of U.S. meddling.
The field of 13 candidates has been led by two clear frontrunners — leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, 80, who is seeking a fourth term, and Flavio, the 45-year-old son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who hopes to return his father's right-wing movement to power.
With about 11% of votes reported, Flavio led Lula with 51.09% to the president's 40.67%.
The early results showed southern states that lean to Bolsonaro reporting faster, while votes from Lula's northeast stronghold are usually tallied later.
If no candidate wins more than 50% of valid votes, the top two will face off on Oct. 25. Surveys show Lula and Flavio polling roughly even in a likely runoff.
A victory for the senator would extend a wave of wins across Latin America by right-wing candidates aligned with U.S. President Donald Trump, while Lula's reelection could create a headache for Washington, which has clashed with his government over trade and security.
Despite growing worries over Brazil's public finances and sluggish economic growth, the campaign offered meager policy debate, as both leading candidates skipped the major TV debates.

Al Reuters tries to rally the minions.
Hopefully it won’t work this time

“Results trickle in” == the extreme Leftist will be your leader whether you want it or not.
In California they’d say “the first weeks of waiting for enough results to call the elections are underway.”
But if the Brazilians have to wait through the night they can caffeinate themselves because:
“They’ve got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil.”
and “The politician’s daughter was accused of drinking water and was fined a great big fifty dollar bill.”
Good Frank Sinatra version on his Columbia years collection.
Bolsonaro Strongest areas reporting a higher percent in
So it’s likely he will fall below 50% here soon as Lula’s areas catch up
So a run off
Still good showing though
The test for Brazil will be to see if thir results are available before Christmas. If so, they are definitely now much more civilized and advanced than the sorry assed State of Newsomeville.
I notice that Reuters calls Senator Flavio Bolsonaro right wing and Lula a less pejorative adjective-leftist.
The MSM loves to throw around right wing, fascist, neo-fascist, and racist to describe just about anyone they disagree with.
After they stole the last one they welded the door shut. I would not get your hopes up. A slow return result is almost certainly a bad sign.
right wing right wing right wing.
Meanwhile the leftist thug stole the last election and imprisoned his opponent.
‘Right wing meddling’ my eye. What do you call years of USAID leftist political sabotage. Now that it’s gone there’s ‘right wing meddling’. Total BS
Since USAID was dismantled in 2025, no left-wing candidate has won a presidential election in Central or South America. https://t.co/rVlfNOdpS8 pic.twitter.com/Qxo3pibcMW— Mostly Peaceful Memes (@MostlyPeaceful) October 4, 2026
Run-off on 10/25.
Odd that a majority pf people would want to live under slavery instead of freedom? OR, the polls and elections are rigged?
The slower the vote count the more fraud they commit.
Brazil just counted 125,197,211 votes in a few hours.
Why did it take California over a month to count 9,262,468? pic.twitter.com/6GxyiMae6h— Benny Johnson (@bennyjohnson) October 5, 2026
