Christa Pike shouldn’t still be breathing. She survived two injections of lethal drugs in a harrowing failed execution by the state of Tennessee, raising questions about how the procedure was carried out and how it went wrong.
Nearly 24 hours after Pike was set to be put to death for a murder she committed when she was 18, she remains in critical condition and is receiving care, her lawyers said Thursday afternoon. Her prognosis is unclear, said Randall Spivey, one of her lawyers. Neither he nor another lawyer, Stephen Ferrell, who spoke with reporters, said he had seen her in the hospital.
“I’m haunted by last night,” said Spivey, who was there during the execution attempt.
Spivey said he counted at least seven needles used in Pike’s left arm alone, “one of which appeared to be bent when it was pulled from her arm after an unsuccessful attempt.”
He added that Pike’s right arm had turned purple after the second round of the drug pentobarbital, a sedative used in Tennessee’s execution protocol, was dispensed. Pike’s lawyers said they also learned of “blistering and burning around the sites of the injection.”
The description sheds additional light on what occurred inside the execution chamber as the execution team tried to put Pike, 50, to death. After the curtain to the chamber was opened at 7:26 p.m., a media witness said, Pike complained that “my arm feels like it’s about to burst open.”
Other media witnesses said that Pike moaned that one spot was “really throbbing” and that she was kicking so often that she knocked a sheet that was laid on her.
She continued to make snoring sounds, groan and move after the drugs were presumed to have taken effect, the witnesses said.
Five minutes after the second dose, “it was clear that Miss Pike was still breathing,” Spivey said.

For Pete's Sake! Just END THIS after the 30 YEARS she got to live beyond her VICTIM!
So sad.
Too bad.
Hospital pillow. Face. End of story. Grrrr!
Just send condemned murderers to Canada for maid.
When an abortion doesn’t work they let the baby die and harvest its parts. Why a different treatment?
Pronosis? The state needs to kill her. It’s the law.
She now has a Cruel & Unusual case.
She now has a Cruel & Unusual case.
Considering what she did to the girl she killed all those years ago she is getting what she deserves.
Spivey, you piece of crap.

One of my favorite parts was the end of Spivey. Too bad we didn't get to see the haircut.
They misspelled 'liars'.
Wasn’t the old tradition that if the rope broke twice during a hanging that it wasn’t meant to be?
If she survives. If not her family/estate just hit the gubmint lottery.
I don’t believe anything from her defense team.
IDK what all the hoopla is about “what happened”. It’s obvious what happened. They didn’t establish venous access or they went clear through the vein. Both doses went into the subcutaneous fat and muscle not into the vein. That’s why the burning, discoloration, and lack of death. Absorption would be slow & incomplete. Mo Larry & Curly do an execution.
Hanging, firing squad. Somethig clean, time honored and universally fatal. This whole drug execution dance is macabre and too easily botched.
Hmmm. The value of the wrongful death acton is figured on the basis of the quality of the decedent’s relationship with the wrongful death heirs. In CA we call it “comfort, society, and support.” From what I hear her relationship with her family is not so good
Not a lie. Our Governor is useless. As was the last one.
And Republicans run everything.
It took Trump to clean up Memphis in just weeks. 24 years of RINO governors did nothing.
Just take her off life support. But I guess they only do that for the Terri Schiavo types.
“Blackburn, now running for Tennessee governor, urges return of electric chair after failed execution”
https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/blackburn-urges-return-electric-chair-after-failed-execution
“Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., who is seeking the governor’s mansion, called for the return of the electric chair as a method of execution in the wake of the failed execution of Christa Pike this week.
Pike survived lethal injection this week after the Supreme Court allowed her execution to go forward. She was convicted 30 years ago of a 1995 murder of her classmate. Blackburn, reacting to the failed execution, suggested using a more time-tested method.
“This situation is tragic. Christa Pike should have been executed long ago. Now, this botched process is extending the pain for the family of Colleen Slemmer,” she posted on X. “While there should be a thorough review of what happened and why the process failed, the answer is simple: bring back the electric chair and deliver justice for these victims swiftly. As your governor, I will do just that.””
