Even in a city filled with homeless encampments, this was a unique sight.
A KTLA viewer shared a photo of a homeless encampment that was set up on top of a bus stop shelter in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood.
The photo was taken near the busy intersection of S Barrington Ave. and Wilshire Blvd. at a Metro bus stop.
In the photo, a man is seen laying on top of the structure next to a shopping cart and other personal items.
An estimated 187,000 people are currently experiencing homelessness in the state of California, while the latest point-in-time count found about 45,000 homeless people in the city of Los Angeles.
In another incident back in March, KTLA captured video of several people who were found to be living in city storm drains near the 110 Freeway.
The issue is a major topic as Mayor Karen Bass and councilwoman Nithya Raman prepare to face off in the November mayoral election.
Bass launched Inside Safe, a program focused on taxpayer-subsidized transitional housing as a bridge to get people off the streets
However, a recent Los Angeles Times report found the program spent $300 million since 2022, and 40% of those initially sheltered returned to homelessness.
Raman has campaigned on the promise of more efficient and effective spending, while Bass says Inside Safe has produced results.

One does not "experience" homelessness. One either is or is not living in the wild, usually due to their own life choices. "Experiencing" homelessness makes it seem like they are on a cruise or something.
Well, other than falling off while asleep or stoned, it’s probably a safer location than on the ground from 2 & 4 legged predators and insects.

Any news helicopter shots will expose how many other people sleep on roofs in Los Angeles.
Anyone remember in the 80s when they would portray many homeless as unfortunate married families with kind humble children who were dealt a bad hand in life? The rest were drunken males. Wasn’t until later people started calling it out that most who remained homeless were by choice or drug addicts. Seems many of the non profits are actually helping the families that run on tough times.

The ‘Tunnel to Towers’ foundation is doing a lot of good to help homeless veterans. Not every homeless person is in that situation due to poor ‘life choices’.
Some are there because of choices they made to serve you and me.
I'm a Navy veteran. I know how people can get hooked on drugs. However, except for people who get hooked during medical treatment, it is a choice the very first time a person decides to try a drug. It is a choice to continue doing so. Don't get me wrong...I do sympathize with people who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc. But it is a choice to start, a choice to continue, a choice to refuse help, a choice to stay on the streets even though help is available. Also, most people on the streets are not veterans. The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans says about 5% of homeless in the US are veterans.
