Starbucks announced plans to close roughly 250 stores across North America this week, company COO Mike Grams revealed Thursday.
Grams announced the closure in a public statement, saying that while most of its 18,000 North American stores were profitable, a small portion has been struggling.
"We have carefully reviewed our North America coffeehouse portfolio and identified locations where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners or where we don’t see a path to acceptable financial performance," Grams said in the announcement, which was in the form of a letter to "Partners."

High crime rate and homelessness.
In my city, they closed three brand new 7/11’s because the homeless ran them out of business. They were nice stores with the latest in everything.
Inflation hurting customers? Crime as you mentioned. People not working in the area like downtown Seattle or NYC.

There is one of these on practically every street corner. It is amazing how so many can enjoy bad coffee, as long as sweet flavors are added.
The only good stuff at Starbucks is their tea and bakery/breakfast stuff, and it’s not worth the price.
Liberals always seem to be hanging out there. Nose piercings and tats are apparently required to sit there.

I hope they close one of ours. They create a traffic jam as people line up in the drive-thru every morning and the line goes out to the street...................
I used to think Starbucks was closing due to crime and lack of law enforcement in urban areas where they had a lot of stores, but as I’ve seen more recent closings, I’m thinking that the Starbucks overpriced coffee fad is finally fading. There was a Starbucks near my office that had people out the door and was not remotely a crime area. People stopped going there over the past two years and it was shut down within the past year. I think more are being shut down in the suburbs too. Whatever madness possessed people to buy $10 cups of coffee may have finally broken.

Personally I’ve never understood the whole fascination with starbucks.
At my Panera bread $2.86 will get you all you care to drink coffee in several flavors.

The next town over from me is a poor one. No grocery stores are nearby, so for most things the town’s Dollar Store had to do.
It closed recently, for the reason you noted above. And of course that town is run by Democrats. As is the county. As is the state.
Not really. If they didn't have the customers, more would be closing.
On average, it's a store every 160+ sq miles. Also consider, most everyone drinks coffee, even if they don't go to five-bucks.
As an aside, coffee stores serve to demonstrate a nice aspect of free markets.
I remember arguing about commie care w/a co-worker and mentioned that I didn't even think government should provide Medicare to which he replied "Then those people would not be able to get insurance if the government didn't provide it".
I said, really? There's no government mandate that I be supplied w/coffee everyday yet there's a coffee shop on every corner. How'd that happen?
Way overpriced brew for lazy people who don’t know how to make a really good cup of Joe. For the price of 2 containers of Starbucks swill, I can make several pots of very decent coffee, served in a real mug not a cardboard piece of junk.
