US President Donald Trump came close to ordering a new American military campaign against the Houthis in Yemen this weekend, after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman personally urged him to intervene, but called off the planned strikes as they were nearing execution, The New York Times reported.
According to the report, Trump had spent roughly two weeks weighing repeated Saudi appeals for US military assistance against the Iran-backed Houthis, whose renewed offensive has expanded the conflict in Yemen and increased pressure on Saudi Arabia.
Reuters separately reported Monday that Washington had considered strikes after renewed Saudi appeals but that Trump ultimately called them off. Reuters said it could not independently verify all details of the NYT report. CENTCOM referred questions to the White House.
The White House declined to discuss Trump's deliberations on the record.

Most members of Trump's inner circle were either deeply skeptical of or directly opposed to joining Saudi Arabia's fight against the Houthis, according to a senior administration official cited by the NYT. One concern was the additional strain that another sustained military campaign could place on US forces already involved in the conflict with Iran.
Trump had told advisers on Wednesday that he did not favor launching strikes. But after speaking with bin Salman on Thursday, he reversed course and instructed the Pentagon to prepare airstrikes against Houthi targets, according to administration officials cited by the NYT.
By midday Sunday, however, Trump had changed his mind again.
The planned US strikes were halted at a late stage, when military commanders had already approved target lists, troops were loading bombs onto aircraft selected for the operation, and the first wave of attacks was close to beginning, according to people briefed on the planning.

In 2025, over the course of 50 days, US forces attacked more than 1000 Houti targets. Saudi Arabia has, as recently as this past week, said that they will not normalize relations with Israel.
Trump made the right decision here.

Trump is going to put the screws to opec. I think his plan is to let the house of Saudi fall and several other opec nations, then move in and annex the area.
Hey if Saudi Arabia is happy with being attacked by the Houthi’s, why should we be getting involved. If they want help, they can ask for it, otherwise forget about it..considering Saudi Arabia still has a lot to answer for especially when it comes to 9/11
The Houthi are Shia Muslims who are more supportive of the Iranian mullahs and IRGC than the Iranian people. The 9/11 Saudis despite their inredible wealth and arsenal of military equipment are ineffective, incompetent fighters. Good at terror, supporting terrorism and bribes but actual combat? Not so much. They are being attacked and can only beg Americans to protect them. Maybe Trump is coming to the realization that the American entanglement in the Mideast is one big mistake. If we pulled out entirely the oil would flow because they all need the money or they would starve. Israel would also survive without overt American involvement.
There is something fishy here. Why would SA accept being attacked by the houthis and then ask Trump to leave them alone? That is not logical. I would believe SA has something going on in cahoots with the houthis and their recent attack was to sucker us into something. After 9/11, I trust no Saudi.
Tit-for-tat how are the houthis actually winning against Saudi Arabia?
Did SA run out of people who could pick up an AK and drive an old Toyota truck?
Even without US intervention (which recall that FDR made a thing for favorable oil relations way back when) are the houthis really that much of a terror?
