Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has dismissed dire warnings that artificial intelligence could soon lead to humanity’s extinction — calling such predictions overblown “doomsday narratives.”
“2030 is not going to be the end of the world. There is 0% chance that’s going to be the end of the world,” Huang told CBS News correspondent Jo Ling Kent in an interview airing Sunday.
“Scaring people is unnecessary. It is irresponsible.”

We sent men to the moon without an Internet. We can still bank using pen and paper. Unlike AI, we’re not physically plugged into electric outlets - at least not yet. And we’ll always have Galt’s Gulch type options when things start to go south.

Personally I’ll put a lot more weight in the opinions of AI safety experts. Almost all of whom are saying going balls to the wall in developing Artificial General Super Intelligence is a really bad idea.

Exactly... The longer it’s around, the more dangerous it becomes and we cannot completely rely on it.
AI is very fallible and a good example... Historical records... Many ancestry websites are using AI to analyse historical records... That analysis results in a lot of screw ups... Humans make mistakes as well but AI is making way more mistakes than humans do. Using AI makes sense, you can analyse massive amounts of records in a short amount of time, but humans should be checking the work of AI to ensure that the mistakes that it does make are corrected so they do not hinder researchers. And since it’s been clearly proven to be making mistakes with historical data current data is also likely being compromised.
The info produced by AI will always need to be checked by humans... And if it isn’t, we will risk losing a great deal of important information.
Whew, that will be after we are under water from rising seas from global warming, per Al Gore.
