Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday unveiled “Vision Zero Reimagined,” a wide-ranging plan to eliminate traffic deaths within 10 years — including by boosting “pedestrian-only” zones across the city.
The 105-page blueprint, however, offers few concrete details on the no-car zones, such as where they would be located or how much of the city would be turned into “pedestrian-priority districts.”
“Vision Zero Reimagined puts forward the bold measures and practical fixes we need to make preventable tragedy no longer a part of everyday life in New York City,” Mamdani said.
The plan also vaguely vows to institute 20 mph speed limits across “entire neighborhoods” and to look into instituting higher tolls for oversized passenger cars.
The city will be “providing disincentives to private automobile trips, ownership and on-street storage,” the report states.

Every single time I see Mamdani do something bad to NYC, I smile. The people in NYC love him because he’s well spoken, has a nice smile and is a muslim communist.

One of the most notable was Nicolette Mall in Minneapolis, MN. My hometown thought that looked great, and did something similar to our downtown. Absolutely killed downtown. The city finally undid the conversion of a main street into a mall, and the area is showing signs of life.

Not in my company’s restrooms. In the stalls there’s the sign “Flush only toilet paper”.
It used to be that one could drive down the avenue at 25mph and hit all green lights. Now in some sections, one has to drive 15 mph to hit all green lights.
Another thing I noticed, most of the cars are TC. Eliminate those and there would be no congestion in NYC. People do not use public transportation anymore.
Massive growth of pedestrian zones is a sacrament to modern urban planners.
How that is supposed to support hi-rise buildings is another matter.
