Socialist Senate Nominee Angie Nixon Says It's ‘Crazy’ She Has To Pay Her Taxes And Student Loans

Nixon laments the injustice of having to pay her own fair share as she campaigns on raising taxes on the wealthy

Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon, an avowed Democratic Socialist who owns two homes and raked in at least $270,000 from her jobs and investments last year—in addition to her husband's unpublished income—is lamenting the injustice of having to pay taxes on her outsized income.

Nixon's income, which she detailed in financial disclosures, includes rent from one of her properties, her income as a state representative, her earnings from a Miami consulting firm, and her salary as the director of a nonprofit that works to mobilize black voters. Her income is likely even higher than reported because she is not required to publicly disclose the income earned by her husband, Jarrett Morene, who owns and operates what appears to be a car repair business.

Nixon's personal income in 2025 clocked in at well over five times the median income of the average American worker, yet she failed to set aside enough of her substantial earnings to pay her taxes and repay her student loans. The dues-paying Democratic Socialist reported in her latest disclosure submitted in Florida that, as of Aug. 25, she owes nearly $14,000 in unpaid taxes to the IRS on top of $17,600 in unpaid federal student loans.

Nixon's unpaid taxes and student loan debts are a drop in the bucket compared with the extraordinary and diversified income she earned in 2025. Still, the Democratic Socialist, who wants to institute a 5 percent annual wealth tax on billionaires, recently complained about how "crazy" it is that the federal government is forcing her to pay her own fair share.

"Your girl over here is on a payment plan to pay the IRS $12,000 back," Nixon said during a podcast interview in July. "And listen, I ain't made $105 billion, but you making me pay $12,000 to the feds? Like, really? That's what we're doing? And they already took some of the taxes away anyway. I paid over $10,000. It's just, it is crazy."

People with freelance, consulting, or rental income are required by law to pre-pay their federal and state taxes since these taxes are not withdrawn from their paychecks as happens with a W2 job. Taxpayers who can't pay their taxes after they file must enter a repayment plan or face liens, garnishments, or other seizures. The payment plans involve significant penalties.

Nixon, who says billionaires are tax cheats who refuse to pay their fair share, has a long history of tax delinquency. The Florida Department of Revenue slapped her personal company, the Moxie Group LLC, with three warrants for delinquent sales taxes from 2017 through 2021 totalling $4,400 in taxes, penalties, and interest. Each of the warrants, which have since been satisfied in full, was mailed to Nixon's secondary home, through which she now earns a steady stream of rental income.

The delinquent sales tax may be tied to Nixon's various race-focused business initiatives. She has coauthored a children's book about black hair, cofounded a "Melanin Market," and opened Cafe Resistance, a Black Panther-focused coffee shop and bookstore that contains a shrine-like wall devoted to violent black militants, including cop-killers.

As for Nixon's unpaid federal student loan debt, she says she won't repay it. In October 2023, when Congress ended the pandemic-era student loan moratorium, Nixon, a University of Florida graduate, declared on Facebook she was "above" paying back her educational debts.

"Dear Student Loans. It's above me now," Nixon wrote. "I don't wanna pay it back. Education supposed to be free."

Nixon added in a comment to her post that her student loan debt is "only $16K" and that she's "being petty." Annual in-state tuition at the University of Florida in 2007, the year Nixon graduated with a political science degree, was $3,200.

Public records indicate Nixon's pettiness surrounding her unpaid federal student loan debt persists. Nixon filed a financial affidavit when she sued for divorce in 2024 showing she made more than $164,000 in 2023, but budgeted none of her earnings to repay her student loans.

Interest has since resumed accruing on Nixon's unpaid federal student debt, which has climbed up to $17,609, according to her latest financial disclosure filed with the state of Florida. Nixon has since called off her divorce. She told Florida Politics in August that she reconciled with her husband shortly after filing for divorce in 2024, and court records show she voluntarily dismissed her case on Aug. 24.

Nixon appears to have taken steps to conceal her unpaid taxes and student debts from voters. She did not disclose either of those debts in the financial disclosure she filed with the Senate in August. Paul Kamenar, an attorney with the watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center, said Nixon's omission of her IRS tax debt and student loan debts violates Senate rules requiring disclosure of debts exceeding $10,000.

"It's clear Nixon violated the Senate disclosure rules," Kamenar told the Washington Free Beacon. "She needs to amend her reports."

Nixon did not return a request for comment.

We are never told what the fair share of taxes should be, to be paid by the 1% or whatever wealthy group allegedly escapes paying said fair share.

I have to research further, but in the past, over 50% of federal income taxes were paid by about the top 5% of income earners.

In California, with state income taxes, I’ve heard aboout 40% of state income tax is paid by less than 5% of top income earners.

Point being, the wealthiest among us are already paying the lion’s share of taxes.

And I know there are always liberal complaints we don’t spend enough on (schools, healthcare, the environment, pick your cause), so that’s why the wealthy need to pay their fair share.

What nobody seems to have a handle on, is government spending, which absorbs the taxes we all pay.

She’s an ignorant POS and if she’s elected in November, the voters need their heads examined.

Check my profile page regarding who pays Federal income taxes.

I think, however, that you miss my point. Gropin’ Joe was telling people who already pay the most taxes they should pay more ... while this communist creep of a former Biden supporter is catastrophically delinquent on her taxes.

The hypocrisy of the left is boundless.

Typing in her name and looking at “images” reveals a lot about who supports her.
