The use of lasers to take out drones at the border seems like good practice and development for our military.
Hone the equipment and skills for use elsewhere defense is needed.

A week or two ago, I heard that the Israelis now have a laser that can shoot down enemy missiles fired at them. I guess this means they shared that technology with the US?
