President Trump vowed to spend “a lot of time in Texas” to help his candidate Ken Paxton defeat Democrat James Talarico, who the president bestowed with a new nickname: “Tele-a-freak-o.”
“We have a very good candidate, Ken Paxton, and he’s running against Tel-a-freak-o, they call him, because he is a little freaky,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office.
Trump has blasted the Democratic contender with numerous insults and repeatedly accused Talarico of being a vegan (which he denies) in a state known for its beef and barbeque. Both parties are heavily invested in the Texas Senate race, seeing it as a key midterm contest for control of the Senate.
“We’re working very hard. We want to win that race,” the president. said. “So I’m going to help Ken Paxton, and I’m going to spend a lot of time in Texas.”
Republicans are feeling a sense of urgency in the Lone Star State as Paxton trails Talarico in the polls and in fundraising.
The president is doubling down on his support for his candidate, attending a fundraiser Thursday night to boost GOP coffers. Trump endorsed Paxton in the Republican primary over longtime Republican Sen. John Cornyn.
Paxton had close to $2 million in his campaign account at the end of June while Talarico had about $21 million.
Several recent polls have shown Talarico with a slim lead in the race, including a recent one from the University of Texas and Texas Politics Project, which showed Paxton had 39% support compared to Talarico’s 42%.
But 14% of voters were still undecided, leaving the race wide open.
Trump won Texas by 11 points in the 2024 contest over Democrat Kamala Harris.

Trump endorsed Paxton after the voting red wave avalanche had already started. He didn’t need rescuing.
Leave it to the NRSC to try to boot Texas.
“Rides to the rescue”? He supports him, yes, but Paxton doesn’t need “ rescue”; he’s winning.
Indeed. We are living in a Democrat-crafted “matrix” much of the time, courtesy the urinestream media and RINO establishment. None of it is reality.
Paxton will win . But it’s always nice to have a visit from Trump .

I think the DNC wrote off Texas and just sends their flunkies. Vigilance is always required of course
I think just pussy, pantywaste “men” are democrats in Texas.
They do for now......but when Texas starts to turn their way they will send a heavyweight to pull them across the line. I say two more cycles.
