MINNEAPOLIS β Target has removed a children's Halloween costume after it was widely criticized online over the weekend for evoking racist minstrel imagery.
Target has since pulled the costume and told KARE 11, "As a company, we know we got this wrong, and we are deeply sorry. The costume is offensive and should never have been part of our assortment. It is no longer available for sale."
The costume was labeled as "Kids' Glows under Blacklight Circus Clown Halloween Costume Bodysuit - Hyde and EEK! Boutique."
Sheletta Brundidge, founder and CEO of the marketing and media company ShelettaMakesMeLaugh.com, took screenshots of the costume before it was listed as unavailable.
"I saw it on Saturday. I thought actually that it was a joke. I thought that it was something that somebody sent me and it was AI," Brundidge said. "This is wrong and this is racist. And let me tell you why and educate the room for anybody who does not know... If you put this up against any of the racist tropes that are out there from that era, right? Where they did the blackface, and they did the dance, and they did the jig, right? It's the same mannerisms; it's the same costume; it's the same smile; it's the same face. It's the same everything."
Back in early 2025, Brundidge was one of the first to speak on the national boycott of Target over its DEI rollbacks.
"Target is who they have been showing us they are for years," Brundidge said. "Maya Angelou's most famous quote was, 'When people show you who they are the first time, believe them.' And Target keeps showing us over and over again exactly who they are."

LOL!
I agree. That is rassist.
Some people think EVERYTHING is about them. Even when it isn’t.
That’s the real problem. It’s like when that guy said the city budget was like a black hole.
they spelled “blacklash” wrong ...
In the real world there would be a white kid wearing that but you know advertisers ,LOL
Just needs bright orange nylons on the face instead of the black shaded ones.
Smile looks like a watermelon.
Looks like something you would see at a Minnedishu ICE protest.

Manufactured Outrage π€¦π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
Lots of white kids would be wearing the Costume.
Actually, I think the most horrible scary costume would be of an AWFUL. Fat purple hair woman with tats and a nose ring (imagine the boogers on her fingers from putting that ring on”. Freaking cootie central!
Using a black kid as the model was the racist thing.

Perhaps Target will LEARN and not use a black kid to model a Halloween costume in the future but instead employ a white kid as the model.
Looks a wee bit like an Irish jester to these eyes.
Can't sleep. Clown will eat me.
Can't sleep. Clown will eat me.
Can't sleep. Clown will eat me.
IMHO, Target is the same pile of cow manure as ANTIFA...
No real American would have anything to do with either of them...
