The search for a missing US Assistant Attorney ended after he was found dead in a San Diego federal building, marking “one of the darkest days” in the office’s history.
Local police discovered former Acting US Attorney Andrew Haden, 48, dead inside an office at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building Wednesday, but ruled that no foul play is suspected.
Haden was reported missing earlier in the day Wednesday and his body was found hours later.
The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of Haden’s death.
Haden joined the US attorney’s office in 2010 and twice stepped in as acting US attorney for the Southern District of California during leadership changes, serving roughly two months in both 2023 and 2025.
“Out of an abundance of caution, SDPD investigators responded to the scene, and no foul play is suspected,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner.”
Scott C. Carr, executive director of the San Diego County Bar Association, said the local legal community was ”devastated” by Haden’s sudden death, remembering him as a supportive boss and friendly colleague who ‘always’ had a kind word to say.
”Our legal community lost a good one,” Carr wrote in a LinkedIn tribute following Haden’s death.
Southern District US Attorney Adam Gordon mourned Haden’s death in a statement to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Gordon said Thursday was “one of the darkest days in our office’s history, but there was nothing dark about Andrew Haden’s life.”
“He was a beacon of light — full of laughter, friendship, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to serving our community,” Gordon told the outlet. “We will honor his life and legacy by carrying his light forward, today and always.”

And unexpected.
“What difference does it make at this point?”
He died from death. “ Case solved, who wants to get some poppers at Fudpuckers after work?”
We found an employee dead in the company gym one time.
When my wife worked downtown one her fellow cubicle dwellers died at his desk form a heart attack. It happens.
Did he get the forced clot shots?
We had one too but the guy was 74. Heart attack.
My sons boss died of a heart attack while on the job. He was 51. People die.

Andrew Haden is not publicly identified with a specific political party affiliation, but he was appointed as Acting U.S. Attorney under the Biden administration, which is associated with the Democratic Party.
Heart attack most likely....................
I suspect heart attack.
My Dad had his first heart attack at the age of 47. He was at the GE Plant, felt sick so he went to the Plant Doctor and he said my Dad was having a heart attack. After an ambulance ride, he was in the cardiac emergency room when his myocardial infarction happened and the Head Cardiac Nurse, Mrs. Perry, was fast on the defibrillation paddles.
Yep. Everyone dies, but not everyone dies at home, in bed, “surrounded by family.” (I cringe at the thought of being surrounded by family, a sort of deathwatch.)

“Andrew Haden led the Violent Crimes & Human Trafficking Section and served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney, roles that included supervising public corruption and public integrity matters in the Southern District of California.”
Hmmm...It gets a little more interesting.
“””Yep. Everyone dies, but not everyone dies at home, in bed, “surrounded by family.” (I cringe at the thought of being surrounded by family, a sort of deathwatch.)””
I’ve been through the deathwatch four times. Very agonizing for everyone.
Yeah twice, gut wrenching.
Roy Gricar was never found...
