California Democrats Pass Stop Nick Shirley Act

Democrats have largely subverted the mainstream media, reducing it to a party propaganda organ. Yet journalism will continue to be an impediment to their consolidation of power, so long as independent journalists like Nick Shirley let people know what is going on. So California came up with the Stop Nick Shirley Act in response to the political earthquake he caused by revealing Democrat-sanctioned Somali fraud in Minnesota. As California State Assemblymember Carl DeMaio observed,

“If this bill becomes law, the message is clear to every journalist in California: expose corruption and you will be punished.”

Democrats have crossed the Rubicon into straightforward tyranny. The outrageous act has passed.

The Center Square reports:

Assembly Bill 2624 was authored by Assemblymember Mia Bonta, D-Oakland, and aims to protect workers and volunteers from having their personal identification details made public.

That’s how they spin it. The actual intent is to criminalize investigative journalism that undermines the Democrat narrative, specifically regarding mass immigration.

If the name Bonta sounds familiar, that could be because Mia Bonta is married to California Attorney General Rob Bonta. This presents a conflict of interest, because it is his job to prosecute fraud.

The bill passed in the Senate 30 to 10 along party lines, with all 10 Republican senators voting against the measure. The bill now goes back to the Assembly for a final vote before it advances to Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom for his signature.

Newsom has been scrambling to keep up as his party lurches toward Leninism. Anyone doubt he will sign it?

Presumably this outrage will be struck down by the Supreme Court. However, Democrats are open regarding their intention to pack the court with rubber stamp apparatchiks of the Ketanji Brown Jackson stripe, rendering it irrelevant.

Characteristically, when DeMaio rose on the assembly floor to speak against the bill, Democrats shut off his microphone. Here he reveals the farce we can look forward to if they achieve single-party rule nationwide:

I am not a lawyer, but isn’t this law considered a bill of attainder? The courts love to strike those down.

No, it’s actively bad. It protects corruption.

So does the CCP own California outright? Seems so.

...When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion–when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing–when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors–when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you–when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice–you may know that your society is doomed...

The epithet "Stop Nick Shirley Act" was devised by the bill's opponents - for its "scare" effect. The bill is not actually named that.

Further, the bill does not specifically target Nick Shirley.
