Trump takes double blow in Florida, third in Wyoming
The Hill ^ | 08/19/2026 | Jared Gans

President Trump suffered a pair of losses in Florida’s primaries and another in Wyoming on Tuesday as three of his endorsed candidates were defeated in key primaries, showing the limits of his influence with sagging approval numbers.

Embattled Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) lost his chance at renomination against former TV reporter Ryan Elijah, who appears on track to win by double digits. Mills has been among the president’s strongest supporters in Congress since he was first elected in 2022, but he has faced mounting controversy amid a House Ethics Committee probe into his conduct. The committee has for months been investigating various allegations of dating violence and campaign finance violations, ***

Mills has faced calls to resign or be expelled from Congress, ***

Trump stuck by Mills but ultimately did not include him in a round of posts on Truth Social he made shortly before the primary boosting his endorsed candidates.

*** Trump supported former Commerce Department adviser Catalina Lauf, who previously ran for the House in Illinois, in a crowded field in the solidly red district. Other candidates for the seat included former Reps. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) and Chris Collins (R-N.Y.). But conservative talk radio station founder Jim Schwartzel emerged to win the Republican nod, currently leading Lauf by more than 7 points.

The president’s choice to become the next governor of Wyoming also had a rough night, as state Sen. Eric Barlow (R) easily won the nomination in a multi-candidate field. Barlow defeated Trump-endorsed Megan Degenfelder, Wyoming’s superintendent of public instruction, and 2022 gubernatorial candidate Brent Bien by double digits. The state lawmaker will be the heavy favorite to succeed term-limited Gov. Mark Gordon (R) in November. ***

Mills was a lost cause before the election season even began. Trump should never have endorsed him, but he is loyal..........

“JUST IN: President Trump reveals Rep. Cory Mills REFUSED to DROP OUT despite 47’s wishes — now Trump is endorsing GOP primary winner MAGA Ryan Elijah

Mills not only LIED to Trump about the restraining order against him but also protected Ilhan Omar in Congress.

Never in my voting life have I ever payed any attention to endorsements. Has anyone done a study on how valuable endorsements are, anyway?

I can’t imagine anyone saying, “I was probably going to vote for Smith. I like the way he thinks. But then the president endorsed Jones. So I’m going to vote for Jones.”

Trump rescinded his endorsement of Mills and told him to drop out of the race.

The Hill is one screwed up bunch of “anal-lysts” they have this completely wrong. And they don’t talk about Vindmann losing to a nothing state rep DSA member for US Senate, vs. sitting Ashley Moody former AG of Florida. Dems got nothing.

They also are not talking about looney Bilzerian the Armenian demorat thief living large on scammed federal money in a Nevada Trust Account. A major nasty criminal... LOST to Congressman Fine.
Studiously also avoiding any talk of the criminal cancellation of Nov. 3 Congressional 10 general election on the disqualification of 5 Repub candidates for the Primary yesterday. No reason given the Repub primary was cancelled, as well as the Dem as there were no candidates but the MORON who gets this by default (and uh, Disney/ABC grift)

ALEJANDRO FROST a real moron. See: Comer committee obstruction in the room from this a@@clown very stupid “breed”.

Yes this 2017 FR is a troll, his info page is ridiculous in content alone... really (Goldwater ran in 1965 and Sowell is 94 years old)— as some sort of bonafides of “conservative”. Anyone who forwards/posts The Hill is not doing a service for Conservatism, and.they.know. Flying the Texas flag...like rats do in Austin.

If posters like thegagline were merely internal (on the right) opponents of Trump, that’d be one thing. There are often opponents within the right (or left) to its leadership, and it’s good to have issues genuinely knocked around as civilly as possible. The problem occurs when those disagreeing become useful tools of the left, or, worse, just plain traitors to the country and active friends of our dire enemies.

WY is very understandable. They are independent thinkers who can like Trump but not necessarily his endorsed candidate. Eric Barlow is a rancher, conservative state senator, and large animal vet, things that carry a lot of weight in WY. He also survived a smear campaign that hit him with absolutely false claims - his position is clearly proven to be the exact opposite of what his attackers claimed. He will be a great governor.

Republicans will easily win the district when Lauf lost (Byron Donalds’ old district) and *should* hold Mills’ district more easily than if Mills himself was the nominee.

(Back when Mills first won it in 2022, Anthony Sabatini would have been a better choice although Mills did turn out to vote the right way 95% of the time.)

As to no Republican qualifying to oppose ultra-liberal racist punkie Max Frost in CD-10, that is a lost cause anyway. No Republican is winning there, period.

The Wyoming result isn’t good; two conservatives split the “hard right” vote and allowed another Mark Gordon-type squish to win the GOP primary for Governor. Another self-inflicted wound for the right.

Those big rectangular Western states where EVERYBODY is a Republican often — way too often — have this kind of an outcome. Squishes (up to and including outright Democrats running and winning as Republicans) routinely prevail in places like Idaho, Utah, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, etc.

Republicans always win in those places; conservatives only rarely do.

Typical Hill, report without any context. How has Trump done overall with endorsed candidates?

Also- I find it funny to read RINO rooting FoxNews cast every result as a disaster. Last night when the dem primary was over and they got a Navy Vet for the district, Fox was reporting it as if this was a flip. Mills, they asserted, was vulnerable.

Except, Mills didn’t win.

The RINOs are praying for a midterm disaster so that they can say: “see, MAGA is a failure and you need to support the George Bush/Mitch McConnell wing of the party.
