Turkey Revives "Gray Zones" Claim Over Greece's Tourism Spatial Plan
Greek City Times ^ | August 8, 2026 | Stella Mazonakis

Turkey has renewed its challenge to Greek sovereignty in the Aegean Sea, using Greece's newly approved Special Spatial Framework for Tourism as the latest pretext.

In an official statement, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs referred to "geographical features whose sovereignty has not been granted to Greece through international treaties" -- language that directly revives Ankara's long-standing "gray zones" theory regarding certain islands and islets in the Aegean.

Turkey declared that the Greek spatial plan "will have no legal consequences for Turkey" and accused Athens of attempting to instrumentalize environmental protection for political purposes.

Ankara further warned that "unilateral actions should be avoided in enclosed or semi-enclosed seas such as the Aegean and the Mediterranean," arguing that international maritime law encourages cooperation among coastal states on environmental matters.

The best environmental improvement would be to kick Turkey out of NATO, take back Northern Cyprus and revert Istanbul back to Constantinople.

And ban Turkish made firearms and ammo in the USA. It’s just helping Erdogan and his Muslim horde.

Fun fact: After Ottoman Turkey lost WW1, the Western Allies occupied Constantinople. We should have kept it, and persuaded the city’s Muslim population move on to the east.

Yeah, and there were also millions of Christian Greeks in Western Anatolia, but Turkey forced them out at gunpoint.

Historically, what is now Turkey, used to be mostly Greece, and on the East there was Armenia.
Turks came uninvited from central Asia, conquered, killed, forced to exile, enslaved and converted.
So Turks should be happy what they got and shut up!

The EU has teased membership since circa 1960, but never brought them in. Turkey (and the TRNC) has done brisk trade with most EU members, and Turkish nationals have been guest workers and/or naturalized in Europe, particularly Germany.

Erdo' tried to build a mini-EU of the Middle East (of course, excluding Israel, the only country that has a modern economy; tried to include Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran), and thereby screwed himself and his country.

Unlike a lot of politicians of the Med basin and northern Europe, he does seem to learn from his mistakes, other than to pursue his muzzie supremacist agenda. But always does it the hard way.

Regardless, after he's out of office (probably via his decease), whatever follows will be worse.

Sidebars, from the FRchives:

the current Islamicist Turkish regime is one of the most dangerous on earth.

Ask Greece, Cypress, Lebanon, Syria, the Kurds, the Armenians, Somaliland, Israel, etc. And we really need to get Turkey out of NATO (it being one of the very last governments we should even consider protecting!) and get our stragetic weapons OUT of there before Erdogan seizes them outright.

Since the battle of Manzikert in 1071,
Turks became the worst enemy of Europe.
Before the second siege of Wien, they controlled all southeast quarter of Europe, and only because few successful turns, the whole Europe could be paying jizya to the Ottoman sultan, including compulsory one fifth of youth given to Sultan into slavery!

Turks were finally ejected from Europe in 1913 in First Balkan war.
But they are coming back.

North Cyprus gets 75 million cubic m of water per year from Turkey, which unlike the Middle East is lousy with water.
