Nearly half the states are suing the U.S. Department of Transportation and U.S. Department of Homeland Security over what they allege is the illegal seizure of millions of truck drivers’ personal data.
Specifically, 21 states and the District of Columbia filed a suit against the DOT and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, and 22 states and the District of Columbia are suing DHS. In both cases, which were filed on Aug. 13 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the states aim to stop the administration from “seizing the names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers of 17 million commercial drivers nationwide.”
The states involved in both lawsuits are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. Minnesota is involved in the case against DHS.

In response to the lawsuit, the DOT called the coalition of states “radical” and said that the data is needed “to keep America’s roads free of dangerous illegal immigrant truck drivers.”
“Every administration since 1988 has had access to this basic database, so let’s be clear on what this ridiculous lawsuit is really all about,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said. “These radical state AGs want to make it harder for my department to enforce the rules of the road and easier for dangerous illegal immigrant truck drivers to operate a big rig. They may not care about keeping you and your family safe, but President Trump and I do. We will fight this lawsuit tooth and nail to prevent more senseless crashes by unqualified drivers.”

The Democrat party is the party of crime.
If your truck crosses state lines, you are involved in interstate commerce, which means the Federal Govt has control over your driver’s license/CDL.
Expect a big push to automated trucks if this keeps happening.
What a bunch of shameless clowns, citing “privacy”.
They can all go to hell
You’ll notice it is the states that are filing suit and not the truckers. The truckers would love to see all of them gone as they generate business as illegals and cuase insurance rates to skyrocket. Plus you’ll notice that every one of the states are liberal trying to protect their voting base.

Automated transport is already baked in the cake. Automated everything.
That’s just one reason out of many, the huge push to import millions of otherwise unemployables for decades now never ever passed the smell test. America has millions of her own to take care of.
That would mostly impact Illinois. Price to pay to protect their favorite hobby of importing and maintaining special populations.
“...Arizona, California,...Wisconsin”
I’m sure the feds can create some creative ways to punish these states...
So only the democrat gov’t gets to see the data.
TRAIN MILITARY VETS FOR THE CDL’S.
All states with Democrat governors, it appears to me from a quick glance.
“Nearly half the states are suing the U.S. Department of Transportation and U.S. Department of Homeland Security over what they allege is the illegal seizure of millions of truck drivers’ personal data.”
.
DOT and DHS sure went to a lot of trouble when all they had to do is get the buttkissers at Flock and SignalTrace to give them the data.
.
I worked at a container yard in KCK that had about 10 Hindu truckers imported during the bush years, that specialized in delivering overweight loads past the weigh stations in the mid-west using back roads and thru small towns and dirt roads. hard working guys
My buddies in Minnesota have gone to Iowa to get thier CDL’s because Minnesota CDL classes take weeks and are expensive. Somehow many Somalis have plenty of time and money to get CDL’s in Minnesota.
They’ll forbid any commercial drivers licenses from crossing state lines for profit. Then the Feds will require a federal test and federal Commercial licenses to operate.
Which would be safer under the current admin, but way less so and abused by democrats
These states are sending untrained individuals onto highways of other states and then refusing to turn over evidence of the crime.
The Feds need to go in and bust all the drivers, carriers, AND state employees under RICO.
