I had no idea that college students could enter their studies before completing nursery school.

Highest grades I ever made were first term in University. I was young and naive and thought you had to study and go to class to pass. Glad those figured into my GPA.

Soon it will be elimination of grades for all four years due to it being “racist”, or “harmful to the feelings of poorly performing students” or some other nonsense. College has become an expensive daycare center for young adults over the last 15 years or so. It is largely useless outside of a select handful of fields of study.

Problem #1) Businesses don’t want to hire recent college graduates because they don’t know much of anything.

Problem #2) College students feel bad when teachers give them grades indicating they ought to try harder.

I was furious decades ago when Carnegie-Mellon downgraded all the past GPAs. Now we have this. Our society is broken.

Done for a specific demographic?

Portland, in fact Oregon, eliminated high school graduation requirement because too many melanated kids weren’t graduating.

I had a lot of stress my first semester, but I got my best grades then. After that, the math got harder and the TA’s harder to understand.

Are they still charging $? For no grades? Shut it down!
Make it a psychiatric hospital. Administration and students.

BS. Likely they’re trying to keep the tuition dollars rolling in from students coming to college unprepared and ignorant.

Don’t hire their graduates, obviously.

This is step one to eliminating grades. Too many of the protected groups are either flunking out or not comparing well to the fascists. With DEI fading they are not getting preferential hiring. So getting rid of grades is the solution

I would not have excelled in Engineering if not for low grades when I began college.

This policy is further destruction of our society. It’s in the name.. ‘To protect mental health..’ If there is a mental health problem, maybe college is not the right place for such a person with mental fragility.

U of Michigan is eliminating traditional first-semester letter grades for incoming
freshmen in its College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) starting fall 2027.

Transcripts will show a “pass or no credit” system instead.

The pilot program aims to address the student mental health crisis, ease the high-pressure transition from high school to rigorous university demands, and encourage intellectual risk-taking without GPA fears.
