‘This is insider trading by definition’: Trump sells $100,000 monthly subscription service to Wall Street to further monetize the presidency

Donald Trump has created a way for Wall Street to pay to win. Trump Media & Technology Group’s premium data product released its new subscription service for earlier access to Truth Social posts for $100,000 a month... five Wall Street firms have already signed up for the service, gaining access to Truth Social posts milliseconds before the general public.

“I’ll be blunt,” Gian Luca Clementi, an economics professor at NYU Stern School of Business, told Fortune. “This is insider trading by definition.”

Because Trump owns roughly 41% of the company’s shares, he stands to directly profit from the new recurring revenue stream. At five subscribers alone, the service would generate about $500,000 in monthly revenue, or $6 million annually.

That figure is modest by the standards Trump has set since returning to the White House. His 2025 financial disclosure showed his businesses generated more than $2 billion in personal income last year—nearly quadruple his 2024 total—with the bulk flowing from ventures that sit directly at the intersection of his office and his balance sheet.

He earned roughly $1.4 billion from cryptocurrency, including $635 million in royalties from his $TRUMP meme coin and more than $500 million from World Liberty Financial, the crypto venture run by his sons.

Trump signed legislation promoting stablecoins just months after World Liberty launched its own—a policy-to-profit pipeline structurally similar to what Truth API now does with his social media posts.

He collected millions from Trump-branded Bibles, sneakers, and watches, and Melania Trump secured a reported $28 million deal with Jeff Bezos for a documentary. Truth API is the latest mechanism in an established playbook...

Clementi argues the arrangement allows Trump to monetize information he possesses because of his office. “He’s going to monetize the role of the office of the president of the United States,”

This is blatant influence/access peddling.

He’s a business man in addition to being President. That’s what business people do...try to make money.

No that’s not insider trading unless he recently bought/sold based on that news.

If the company ever turns a profit, Trump could be a millionaire!

So Trump is being open about telling people what he might do or say, rather than just to big donors to campaigns, while at campaign events?

Sometimes the appearance of impropriety is just as damaging as the real thing.

No it isn't. Not even close. It does emphasize that it's an election year and the DNC wants a whole new set of kangaroo court impeachment hearings.

Agreed. Insider trading is if Trump does buying and selling based on what he knows from the inside (as President). This, if anything, is letting people besides just himself know what's going on. Again, assuming this is information that can be used for trading, this information is available to more just Trump's family but to anyone who pays for it.

To me that sounds like the opposite of insider trading.

At least it isn’t using taxpayer money, skimming 10%, writing a fake book of lies, getting a no-show job in Ukraine, or selling paintings of nothing for 50k a pop.

Trump is moving the Overton Window so far on this stuff. Democrats must be thrilled because they will no doubt use these financial shell games to create unlimited campaign cash and personal wealth.

But when Dems like Pelosi trade using actual inside information, crickets are heard. 😂

Big difference I see is this is being done in the open. Easy to challenge if something is inappropriate. Compare to Democrats funneling bribes/funding to liberal media outlets through worthless/redundant subscriptions.

Democrats don’t need to do that now. Just sell early access to government officials for $1 million or $10 million each. The buyers won’t care because they are partisan Democrats and its really just a donation in kind.
