We've seen a lot of bad ideas coming from the socialist mayor of New York City.
But the latest idea from Zohran Mamdani has people talking and responding with an immediate, visceral reaction.
It's a new program to watch your children for four hours, so you can have a night out. All parents have to do is drop your kids off with government employees you don't know. Would you do this?

Many people are saying there is no way on Earth they would bring their children to a random park in the city and let random people watch them. Even people are saying, "Well, this is a great way to indoctrinate children." Others are saying Zohran Mamdani is trying to do something nice for the parents here in New York City.
Would you ever drop your children off at a park and have random people watch them, especially in New York City?
According to the city, you can drop kids off at a recreation center run by NYC Parks. There's one in each of the five boroughs in New York City. And they're accepting up to 500 kids. You have to register in advance, and dinner will be provided. But you wouldn't have to pay for the program.
While parents recharge, run errands, enjoy a date night or simply take time for themselves, children will spend the evening participating in supervised games, sports and fitness activities, arts and crafts, media education programs and nature exploration with Urban Park Rangers, all led by trained NYC Parks staff.
The visceral reaction many immediately had? No way, no how, were they dropping their kids off with people they didn't know at a park/recreation center. I don't think I saw one positive reaction to this idea in response to the video.
Right now, it's just one night on August 16. But it sounds like they might have thoughts to do it in the future too, probably depending on how it comes off.
Mamdani said:
Making New York City more affordable isn’t just about lowering costs, it’s about giving people back their time. This administration is committed to making it easier to raise a family in the greatest city in the world.”
So let's think about this for a second.
It isn't the role of the government to provide parents with a night out. And how much is this going to take from taxpayers, because taxpayers are paying for this exercise in making Mamdani look "caring"? And would you get the functional equivalent of folks from the Quality Learing Center?
Then, too, if you have 500 kids show up at one of these centers, how many people have they engaged to watch the 500 kids, and have they even vetted them? I can think of a thousand ways that can go wrong, from simple fights between kids to some really bad things that could occur.

This ranks higher in the "do not trust" category than gas station sushi or Hillary Clinton.
And seriously, it takes a lot for me to trust something less than those two things.— Piper (@PiperSebring) August 8, 2026

Reagan: “...I’m from the Government and I’m here to help.”
Much more up to date idea: The government sends a humanoid looking robot to tend the children.
As someone on a talk radio show said yesterday: “Most of the time the new robots won’t murder you in your sleep.” “Never thought of that.”
Will there be a headline making ban on trans nannies? Gay nannies? Ex-con ones? Illegal aliens who were released from foreign prisons during a child rape sentence?
Or one who is a practicing and devout Christian or Jew?
He and whoever came up with this idea are obviously not parents. What could possible go wrong. This has to be a joke.
I just remembered when NYPD Blue had Andy Sipowicz fully trust the gay man John Irvin played by Bill Brochtrup, (who was the office assistant to take care of his sone. He changed from doubting at first to being fully on the gay man’s side. He came through and also risked his own life once to fight a killer in the station.
Wait until they outsource this program to their NGO shell companies and embezzle the funding.

Hey dear, lets drop the kids off with a Somalia’s and Haitians so we can go get drunk!
How many govt pedophiles will be watching these kids? Are these govt babysitters been vetted? If the teaching profession doesn’t vet their teachers, you know the answer is going to be a big fat “NO!”
Feeling the warm embrace of Communism.
NY welfare types already doing this for a whole day - its called "pooblic skool"
Thanks. One to remember.

Most of Scamdani’s supporters don’t have kids, and they would be the ones dumb enough to do this. Will the mayor cat sit?
This reminds me of a rooftop get together I had with some people in Manhattan in the early 1980s. One chat I recall was a woman saying NYC is a great place to be as an adult but no place to raise children.
My cats are fine on their own for up to 48 hours.
