Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine is reportedly quietly working toward an exit from Donald Trump’s Iran war, even as the president appears to believe more air strikes could force a deal.
As the war enters its sixth month, CNN reported Friday that Caine has privately discussed the limits of further military action with other top Trump advisers, warning that continued bombing may not be enough to secure a ceasefire.
“Caine is looking for an off-ramp,” one source familiar with the matter told the outlet.
The 57-year-old general has discussed the matter with CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance—all before meeting with Trump to coordinate their message and to emphasize the limitations of certain military options.

Or, Caine is doing what all good generals do, preparing for ALL contingencies, and some asshole is spinning this as a “trusted anonymous” source. Just like the lie about Trump chewing out Hegseth a couple of days ago.

What are you talking about?? Caine is doing his job. How exactly is he undermining anything or anyone? All options should be on the table, including offramps. This is typical Daily Beast nonsense, dressing up normal conversations and strategic initiatives under the insinuation of disloyalty, and you fall for it. Next time post this under blogs as opposed to News.
I would immediately put General Caine in front of Fox News cameras to deny CNN’s story and condemn their source.
Then again the actual substance, if any, to the story might just be necessary planning for safe and efficient disengagement from the war when the appropriate time comes.
I don’t recall seeing him on the ballot when I voted for president.

It is doubtful they are doing anything other than laying out options and contingencies around current status of forces on both sides. It is their job to give the President everything he needs to make a decision.

The absolute FIRST stance on any story in the Daily Beast ought to be, “why should I believe this?” Then, assuming there is a *kernel* of truth underneath the story, what might that kernel of truth be, and what would it mean?
The obvious kernel of truth is that Caine is preparing for all contingencies. Full Stop. In other words, he is the RIGHT man for the job, and doing what is best for America and the President. Not really hard to see how that reality then got spun into this lie, right?
Which is why he’s doing exactly what the president tells him to do.

So worst case scenario in this rumor is that the members of a meeting with the President prepared for the meeting beforehand. What a scandal.
Seems to me he’s talking about (if this story is true) advising the president. Not launching a coup; not defying orders, but presenting the informarion and knowledge available to him as a recommendation. It’s being presented here as undermining and backstabbing, but is that not the job of the military brass, especially when the president has a cicilian background? Of course the decisions are all ip to the Preident, but they owe him their honest beat assessments.
