AURORA | An Aurora police officer faces a murder charge for the fatal shooting of a Black man during a traffic stop last year.
On Monday, an Arapahoe County grand jury indicted Aurora Police officer Matthew Neely, 54, on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter related to the 2025 fatal shooting of Rajon Belt-Stubblefield. Neely is on unpaid administrative leave, according to the Aurora Police Department.
Neely is not being held in jail, having posted a $200,000 bond. His next court date is Aug. 17.
Neely was previously called out by an Arapahoe County judge for mishandling a burglary case and suspect in Aurora in 2019, and an Aurora Police Internal Affairs investigation upheld some allegations.
A statement from Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said he would not comment on the merits of the case, but did support police more generally. He thanked Aurora’s officers for keeping the community safe.

There was no error.
The guy was mad drunk and charging him.
He backed up continuously. Told the guy the game was up.
Dude made a move and got shot.
Any white cop who works around blacks is insane. It is not worth it. Especially when the politicians will throw you to the ferals.
This is beyond insane.
Not only was the perp continually advancing on him, he had two of his friends lurking in the background ready to pounce on him once the fighting started.
10000% good shoot. Should never have gotten this far.
The leftists don’t want to “defund the Police” as they claim, but they do want to destroy law enforcement as it is now. This is how you do that. Great for recruitment, retention, and morale I’m sure.
I don’t have all the facts, but did the officer have a taser? It would be perfect for this situation.
Resisting is a bad idea. Attacking the police is worse.
I conclude from the videos of this incident that I have seen, this was a justifiable homicide.
Yeah, No.
I am not trusting a taster vs my Carry piece when I got a blak drunk and charging me and his two homies on standby to join in.
FAFO, Drunk Homie addition.
