Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have signed a joint defence agreement, saying an attack on one of them would be seen as an attack on all three.
The pact was announced at a meeting between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the Saudi city of Mecca.
The three countries have been looking to strengthen security ties as the war between the US and Iran has drawn in Saudi Arabia and disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil shipping channel, and the Red Sea.
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan had already announced a joint defence pact last year.
The new Mecca Joint Defence Agreement aims "to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, and stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three States shall be regarded as an attack against them all", a statement reads.
"It further provides for the enhancement of all aspects of defence co-operation among the three States."
Although the pact pledges mutual support between the three Sunni Muslim states, it provides no specifics on the obligations of each.
A Turkish official quoted by Reuters news agency said the pact was "purely defensive in nature".

We'll see if the Arab/Sunni World wants to actually become more involved in policing their own region, instead of letting us do all of the work.
Let’s see. Pakistan hid Bin Laden. 15 of the 19 hijackers on 911 were Saudis. Turkey hates Israel and murdered a million Armenians. Anything we should cheer? We can work with Sunnis? Saddam was one wasn’t he? Trump will have 2 more years to take out the mullahs. If there is no need for mideast oil the problem will be solved. That would mean Russia turns up the spigot and we sell coal to the Chicoms.
So when Iran or the Houthis hit Saudi Arabia again, all three are going to hit back?
Or is this just a sharing of defense technology and equipment pact?
Gog, Magog and his legions form...
islam first and only islam ever
The Gulf Arab states pretty much outsource all work while they squat on oil wealth that they did nothing to earn. They hire Americans and Europeans to do the thinking for them - i.e. R&D, designing buildings, infrastructure, power plants etc, manipulate the US into fighting their wars, and bring in de facto indentured servants from South Asia to do the manual labor for them. Generations of unearned wealth does that to people - it makes them work-shy and basically worthless.
As for Pakistan, it has long been a reservoir for Islamism - most notably through its proxies in the Kashmir region of India.
It’s always interesting how geopolitical considerations changes things.
Had Zia-ul-Haq not died in 1985, I imagine there would’ve come a time where he would’ve been treated in the same light as Gaddafi, Saddam, or the Ayatollah (especially in light of his nuclear ambitions...which were only tolerated because of Pakistan’s opposition to the Soviet Union during the Afghan War and the Cold War more generally).
A) all three countries are islamic. B) Islam says it is okay to lie. C) I trust that all three of those countries will fully implement the agreement.
They would not be de facto indentured servants, they are indentured servants. De facto they are slaves.
So will they respond to attacks by Iran?
Needs to line-up with a Bible verse to go fully apocalyptic
On paper Turkey has an impressive looking military.
Not sure this is a good thing.
Good. Now throw Turkey out of NATO.
