Socialist Dem Gov. frontrunner can’t just say ‘no’ when asked if she wants to cancel Thanksgiving

A socialist Dem running for Wisconsin governor became visibly uncomfortable and served up a word salad when asked whether she still stands by her call to “cancel Thanksgiving” because it is “celebrating colonialism.”

At the height of the Covid pandemic, Francesca Hong, who is the frontrunner to become the Democratic nominee in America’s Dairyland, said that the beloved holiday needs to be scrapped, and that America “should have done this in 1621.”

She added: “If it takes a worldwide pandemic for us to realize we should stop celebrating colonialism and the original superspreader event that killed Indegenous [sic] folx [sic] and women so be it.”

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked Hong point-blank Monday whether she really believes that, and the democratic socialist uncorked with a bizarre 46-second response in which she made no effort to deny that she still wants to throw out the turkey.

I’m a chef, and one of the first meals that I made that was for the community when i was 16 was a Thanksgiving meal. I always think my hospitality background and owning a restaurant for 7-8 years, that bringing folks around the table to share conversation and build community is always a good thing.

But Thanksgiving is also a time that’s incredibly painful for many people in our communities. So I think there I wanted to make sure people understood there are multiple views, but views can evolve.

And the position I’m running for right now — and I think my background as a chef will actually help me become a better governor that’s able to bring more people to the table.

Collins then thanked the candidate for joining her and concluded the interview.

The socialist darling’s Thanksgiving hatred is not an anomaly, though. Hong has gotten hung up about at least seven American holidays in social...

Summary of Article

Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist and Democratic frontrunner for Wisconsin governor, was asked by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins whether she still supports canceling Thanksgiving (which she previously called a celebration of colonialism).

During the COVID pandemic, Hong had written that America should scrap the holiday and “should have done this in 1621,” describing it as the “original superspreader event that killed Indigenous folx and women.”

In the recent interview she gave a roughly 46-second response without clearly denying the earlier stance. She noted her background as a chef (including preparing a community Thanksgiving meal at age 16 and running a restaurant), said bringing people together around a table is positive, acknowledged that Thanksgiving can be painful for some people, remarked that “views can evolve,” and said her hospitality experience would help her as governor by enabling her to “bring more people to the table.” Collins then ended the interview.

The article frames this as consistent with Hong’s broader pattern of critical social-media posts about other holidays, including Valentine’s Day (service-industry labor and capitalism), Mother’s Day and Father’s Day (acknowledging pain or grief alongside celebration), the Fourth of July (citing Frederick Douglass and questioning its meaning amid perceived rights erosions), Halloween (refusing to work and wanting costumed people to leave), and Christmas (feeling “slightly attacked” by holiday computer themes). Her campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

I guess it seems easier to destroy what the US has rather than move to a country that shares their Communist values. I mean why not wreck the US and maybe at the top of the food chain rather than move to China and be just another failed ex-pat who can’t speak the lingo.

Francesca Hong was born in Madison, Wisconsin. Her parents are Korean American immigrants; she herself is second-generation.

Doesn’t that make HER the daughter of “colonizers”?

#2: "Chicom."

Exactly. That's it in a nutshell. She hates America. She hates White people. Anyone who even for a moment considers canceling Thanksgiving deserves to be expelled from America.

Meanwhile what she is saying about the history is false.

The Pilgrims arrived to empty land after a what-could-be-called super-pandemic wiped out all of the tribes in that area, prior to the Pilgrims arrival. They wrote about dead bodies rotting on the beach and so forth. It was a nasty, nasty plague that ravaged the area prior to the Pilgrims.

This is proven through archaeological evidence and is also documented in the two prime source documents used for studying those early years at Plymouth.

Edward Winslow wrote Mourt’s Relation about the early years of the Pilgrim colony:

William Bradford also wrote about those early years in his Of Plimoth Plantation, also known as Bradford’s History of the Plymouth Settlement, 1608-1650:

https://librivox.org/bradfords-history-of-the-plymouth-settlement-by-william-bradford/

Both are available as open source public domain free audio books, and the text is also there for anyone preferring to read over listening.

We do not have to let leftists control American history. That is our choice to let them control it by remaining “I don’t know, I have never consumed the material.”

Thanksgiving is a Federal holiday so she’ll have to do better than a governorship to cancel it.

As if anyone needs the approval of any level of government to take a day off, gather with family for dinner and give thanks for this life.

Personally, Thanksgiving is my last vestige of white supremacy, misogyny, neo-colonial fascism, xenophobia and distaste for dark meat and I’m not giving it up.

MOLON TURKEY!

Hong appears to be a typical product of the People’s Democratic Republic of Madison, and strongly resembles a Maoist Red Guard cadre, missing only the little cap with the red star badge and the Little Red Book to wave aloft while denouncing the running dogs of the capitalist road.

Yes, but the feds can’t impose federal holidays on the states or private companies.
