The lobbying group has more than doubled its spending on political campaigns, while rarely mentioning Israel. It has placed a large financial bet on today’s Michigan Senate primary.
In less than five years, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee has become one of the biggest spenders in American elections, flooding the airwaves in congressional races across the country.
Since its first involvement in elections, the amount of money AIPAC-affiliated political action committees have spent on campaign advertising and outreach to voters has more than doubled, from $29.3 million to $67.2 million, with much of it spent in Democratic primaries.
The group’s biggest test yet will come in Tuesday’s Democratic Senate primary election in Michigan. AIPAC has spent more than $30 million on ads and outreach promoting Representative Haley Stevens over her opponent, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, according to the Federal Election Commission. Dr. El-Sayed, who has run a sharply anti-Israel campaign, has made the group’s involvement a key part of his criticism of Ms. Stevens’s candidacy.
The spending — in Michigan and across the country — marks a significant shift for the group, which for decades was a bipartisan lobbying organization focused on influencing federal legislation and sending members of Congress to Israel. But, alarmed by what it saw as a rising tide of anti-Israel sentiment from Democrats, the group quickly became a major player in federal elections.
In 2022, AIPAC created a super PAC that has spent more money on TV, radio and digital ads in federal elections over the past three election cycles than any other special interest group not linked to a political party, according to a Times analysis of data collected by AdImpact, a media tracking firm. My prediction moving forward is the AIPAC lobby will still have political pull, but nothing like their past influence.
They’ll still be a big player, but opposition to their foreign policy positions will continue to grow in the future.
I did that with the AIPAC texts and emails, after first unsubscribing, and I rarely get any.
I unsubscribe all day long from GOP crud and they won't respect me, at all. I can't tell you how many “Last Chance Before Permanent GOP Ban” emails I've gotten, but I know even those are empty threats and lies, because the GOP spam only increases. Please BAN me, GOP, so you stop sending me those crud WinRed emails!
I am not a fan of AIPAC or any lobbying of US citizens for the government of another country, but at least they respected me after a relatively small number of unsubscribes and text blocks.
AIPAC should be treated like any other organization that is lobbying on behalf of a foreign country.
Foreign influence in US politics is a bad thing (obviously). But if I had to allow just one group, it would probably be AIPAC.
Israel is far from perfect. But more and more Muslim oil money will be flooding this country as time goes on. AIPAC will provide a bit of balance against that.
They will lose power.
Being against AIPAC is really the only winning issue the Dems have left. Boomer cons (and some Boomer Libs) are really the only ones left who fanatically put Israel’s needs above the United States and their children’s/grandchildren’s.
As more and more Boomers take the elevator down, the younger Republicans will have to put America first in order to keep winning elections.
The question in the next couple of years is will AIPAC and Israel still have the power to get the United States to start a war with Turkey for them.
AIPAC is not a foreign group or foreign influence. Israel does not fund AIPAC.
AIPAC does not accept foreign donations, it is funded entirely by private donations from American citizens.

I understand your point. But the fact that AIPAC has “Israel” in its name is evidence of its foreign slant.
Which is (kinda) okay with me, for the reason I mentioned earlier. A great clash of civilizations is coming. Israel will be on the side of the good guys.

AIPAC, J Street, Democratic Majority for Israel, NORPAC etc don't have to register as foreign agents because if you apply those laws to them, your are antisemitic.

AIPAC mainly spends its money opposing the absolute loons in Democrat primaries.
I see that as a good thing for the USA, unless you are of the belief that the Mandami’s of the world would be easier to defeat in the general elections.
