Scott Galloway is a marketing professor at NYU and was a big supporter of Zohran Mamdani. Because of course he was. All the Best™ people were, because Zohran is so dreamy and wants the best for everybody, unlike the meanies.
He was also a big supporter of the pied-à-terre tax, which imposed a substantial annual fee on valuable "second homes" in New York City. You know the ones that gazillionaires have because they are super wealthy and don't care about the homeless and struggling people in New York City.
They need to pay their fair share.

This is what governing for people looks like.
Liberals were thrilled back in April when Mamdani made it happen, and didn't even mind a bit when he called out billionaire investor Ken Griffin and doxxed him in a now-viral video.
Griffin called the video creepy and weird, and is moving much of his business to Miami for obvious reasons.
But along the way something unexpected happened. First, that $5 million floor turns out to be $1 million dollars on apartments and condos, and Mamdani released all the names and addresses for everybody who POTENTIALLY might be eligible for the tax, which includes people who live in those residences permanently.
Almost a million residences were doxxed, when estimates show that fewer than 13,000 of them actually qualify. The others will have to prove they live in those residences in about a month or else be subject to the tax.

Since most of Mamdani's supporters are wealthy and educated, quite a few people were doxxed by the mayor, including Galloway, who turns out not to be happy that he got the Ken Griffin treatment.
Shocking, I know. Who wouldn't want to be doxxed by a socialist who is just trying to do the right thing, right? You need to break some eggs to make an omelet, you know.

Suddenly, a lot of Mamdani supporters are very unhappy. This wasn't supposed to happen to THEM, right? This was about socking it to the rich guys nobody likes.
As many people have noted, being on that list is very convenient for the sans-culottes like Luigi Mangione, should they decide to take somebody out. Since only about 1% or so of the residences that were doxxed are even truly subject to the tax, the rest of the names and addresses are linked to people who are there pretty much all the time.
How convenient.
Alex Berenson's mom happened to be one of the people who was told that she owed the city a fee on her home. Here is what he discovered:
She had received a letter from New York City demanding $55,048 in property taxes on the townhouse in Midtown Manhattan where she has lived since 1996. It was weird, she said, because she didn’t owe $55,048 in property taxes. She asked if I could help her figure out the letter.
The answer turned out to be the city’s new “pied-à-terre” tax, the latest make-good on Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s promise to “tax the rich.” Approved by the New York State Legislature in May, the levy is an extra annual property tax of 0.8 percent to 6.5 percent on high-end apartments and townhouses owned by people whose primary residence is not in New York City.
Except, in its rush to get the loot, the New York City Department of Finance didn’t bother to figure out which properties are really subject to the tax—and which are owned by full-time New Yorkers like my mom, who owns no other properties and now has until August 21 to prove residency or face that $55,048 tax bill. A cursory online search would have revealed the truth, but the city’s bagmen didn’t bother. To add insult to injury, the letter was actually addressed to my father, who died six years ago, in May 2020—in the third-floor bedroom he shared with my mother in the same townhouse.
Welcome to socialism.
It shouldn't surprise us that Mamdani is already screwing a ton of his supporters. The revolution always eats its own, and all these followers of the modern Robespierre are getting exactly what they deserve.
Unfortunately, most of the people who got doxxed along with them were not part of the mob who put Mamdani in office. He only got a bit more than 1 million votes in total, and a whole heck of a lot of them were renters. While Mamdani brought out a lot of voters who usually don't participate, the turnout was about 40%, meaning that Mamdani won as much by voter indifference as by supporter enthusiasm.
Turnout in New York City used to be around 90%, but in the 2021 election, only 23% turned out. Mamdani brought in a whole lot of voters who wanted socialism, but the indifference of the majority is the big reason why he won.
So New Yorkers get this, either because they actually chose it, as those elite jerks who are now complaining about Mamdani did, or because a lot of others chose not to participate.
I, of course, have zero sympathy for Scott Galloway and his ilk; he isn't sorry that Mamdani is doing this to others; he's just complaining that it happened to him. Galloway deserves much more trouble than he will ever get for supporting Mamdani, although, perhaps, he learned a lesson that almost anybody can suffer the fate of Brian Thompson, whom Luigi Mangione gunned down.
It's the middle class who never wanted Mamdani who garner my sympathy. Many of them did vote, and vote against Mamdani. Will they learn the lesson that they need to get their neighbors to start voting again?
Or are they fated to remain victims of idiots like Galloway and the sans culottes he pretends to care about?

An additional tax who people who seldom live in their apartments makes no sense economically. These people do not use the roads very much. Their children probably do not go to school in New York City. They’re not there to use emergency services. Etc.
Do they still get to vote in New York AND the State they DO live in?
They already pay property taxes on these properties. Just a ludicrous money grab by a Communist.
You speak of a fair share? Are you smoking weed? Or just a democrat fool? Tax laws are written with exact numbers, not silly concepts. You vote Democrat; you are lied to. It’s really that simple: you dolts voted him in, so whatever damage the DNC does to you, you asked for it..

Thomas Sowell in his 2015 book Basic Economics, that under NYC rent control policies , a far higher percentage of NYC apartments had one occupant as opposed to 2 or 3, in most other places, contributing to housing shortage, Mayor Koch, a long time ago now, kept his rent contolled apartment in NYC during all 8 years he lved at Gracie Mansion. Good old Socialist Charlie Rangel had 5 rent controlled aparment, one of which he used for campaign office. They’ve been proto socialist for a very long time.
History is just beginning to repeat. Russian urban elites supported the Bolsheviks. Once they had power they turned on the elites. confiscated their property, imprisoned, exiled and outright killed them. There will never be a shortage of useful idiots.
Socialism is easy to vote into office. But once Socialists are in office, the general public has to shoot their way back into decent representation and fiscal responsibility.
Socialists make some pretty broad promises they never intend to keep. But political power they must keep, they will resist to the last man standing.

The sans-culottes ("without knee-breeches") were the working-class radicals of the French Revolution — Parisian shopkeepers, artisans, laborers, and wage earners who wore long trousers instead of the silk knee-breeches (culottes) favored by the aristocracy and bourgeoisie. The name became a badge of pride, marking them as ordinary people rather than gentlemen.Politically, they were fiercely egalitarian and republican, hostile to the monarchy, nobility, and often to wealthy bourgeois moderates as well. They pushed for direct democracy, price controls on bread and essentials (the "maximum"), and harsh measures against hoarders and counter-revolutionaries. Organized through Parisian neighborhood assemblies (sections) and clubs, they became a crucial street-level force behind events like the storming of the Tuileries in 1792 and the fall of the Girondins in 1793.
They were closely allied with the Jacobins and Montagnards during the Reign of Terror, providing much of the muscle and popular pressure that drove the revolution further left. Their influence peaked in 1793–94 under Robespierre, but after his fall (Thermidor, July 1794), the new government moved to suppress sans-culotte power, and their political force faded by 1795.
There's a structural similarity between the Sans Culottes, the German "Brown Shirts," and antifa. All three are/were extra-parliamentary groups using street mobilization and sometimes violence or intimidation to advance a political agenda outside normal state channels. But the comparison breaks down in a few important ways.
The sans-culottes were less a paramilitary organization than a genuine mass social class — Paris's shopkeepers, artisans, and laborers — organized through legally recognized neighborhood assemblies (the 48 Parisian "sections"). They weren't a small ideological vanguard; they were a broad demographic bloc with formal local political power, and for a time the revolutionary government itself relied on and armed them. They eventually got folded into (and then suppressed by) the state, rather than remaining permanently oppositional.
The SA (Brownshirts) were the opposite in structure: a hierarchical, uniformed party paramilitary with ranks and centralized command, built explicitly as the Nazi Party's enforcement arm to beat up communists, socialists, and Jews and intimidate opponents at rallies. Hitler purged its own leadership in 1934 once it became a liability.
Antifa is closer to the sans-culottes in being decentralized and non-hierarchical, but it's a loose protest tendency/network rather than a formal class-based body with recognized political institutions, and it isn't state-aligned — it operates in opposition to, not in concert with, the sitting government.
"Street-level force pushing a political faction's agenda through direct action" fits all three loosely. But:
* sans-culottes ≈ armed mass citizenry temporarily fused with state power
* SA ≈ formal party militia
* antifa ≈ decentralized protest network without institutional or state backing.
The money is not for the liberal utopia. It’s for the people who run the liberal utopia. They will peel off a significant portion for their own benefit and only spend what they have to on the utopia so that it appears they are supporting the utopia.

As did many of the Prussian elite in regards to the Nazis. You don’t get more Prussian elite than Paul Hindenburg. And he appointed Hitler as Germany’s chancellor.
Too often the elites choose not to look at dark side of the folks they support. And then later on they pay for that oversight.
Except it will not work that way. I will bet $50, to be sent to FR, that this will cost the city money, not make it.
People will sell their property, that they already pay an additional property tax on, to someone who will live there most of the year and so the new tax does not get paid and the tax they would have gotten will be reduced.
I keep telling people there is a point of diminished returns with taxes. You actually collect more money with low taxes than you do with high because people pay the low and avoid the high.
Sure there are some people who will pay no matter what and some people who will do anything to avoid paying but those people are a tiny minority.
Most people will pay up to 12% (total) with a minimum of fuss. Every percent you go over that you are going to have more people doing things to get out of paying.
