Republican Utah Sen. John Curtis introduced a bill this week that would let states run their own migrant worker visa programs, with a legal-status pathway for some illegal immigrants tucked inside.
Curtis rolled out the legislation Monday alongside Democratic Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, according to the Deseret News. The measure would let state legislatures build voluntary visa programs sized to local labor demand, a reworking of federal immigration law that, according to the outlet, mirrors a 2011 Utah guest-worker proposal Washington never signed off on.
The bill contains language the Deseret News described as a possible pathway to legal residency for illegal immigrants who have been in the United States since Dec. 31, 2016. Those individuals would submit to a background check and pay a $1,000 penalty to qualify, the outlet reported. (RELATED: Conservative Leaders Call GOP-Led Amnesty Bill ‘Betrayal’ To Voters)
Under the framework, the Immigration and Nationality Act would gain a new nonimmigrant category covering workers and investors, plus their spouses and any children under 18, for terms lasting up to three years, according to the Deseret News. States would write their own rules on employment and residence with sign-off from the Department of Homeland Security, and visa holders would be barred from federal means-tested benefits.

Utah, you have a problem that you need to fix in the next primary.
What an asshole
Curtis is LDS/Mormon. Doesn’t like Trump. Consistently sides with RINOs like Colllins, Murkovsky, McConnell, and dems.
Every politician from Utah is in the cult. Ever since Joe Smith found his ‘golden plates’ and met God and Jesus.
If I offend mormons with my comments? Good.
I have never met a mormon in my life that wouldn’t shake your hand and stab you in the back at the same time.
I trust muslims over mormons every day.
You are a sick cookie. A Muslim would gladly behead you; a Mormon would not. Just for starters.
Sick cookie or not, at least I know the muslim wants to kill me at any time given the chance. The mormon will fake kindness and then put a knife in my back when least expected.
This is simply my life experience. You are welcome to disagree.
Unfortunately, you are correct. Curtis’s job as was Mitt Romney’s job to have open borders to insurea constant flow of potential Mormons. Curtis’s beliefs and resulting ads on tv in Utah are as left-wing as you can get—pro climate change agenda, Data centers, migrant stuff, etc. Curtis is worse than the worst Dem and hates Trump. No wonder he is teaming up with Mark Kelly-lots of Mormons in Northern AZ (and Jeff Flake before him).
This is so disturbing and must be stopped.
This republican will get re-elected.
They always do.
The voters are asleep.
Another RINO communist sympathizer comes out of the closet...
Disgusting rino.
Have to have that cheap labor!
“Republican Utah Sen. John Curtis introduced a bill this week that would let states run their own migrant worker visa programs, with a legal-status pathway for some illegal immigrants tucked inside.”
A traitor if true.
What a HORSE’S ASS!!! WTH is going on in UTAH?? INBREEDING?
Blacks vote for Blacks.....Women vote for women.....Mormons vote for Mormons.
Just like Mike Mumbai Lee who was a H1 Visa Lobbyist who
sold out all American workers without care .
These Mormons are traitors to the USA for a Buck.
The measure would let state legislatures build voluntary visa programs sized to local labor demand
So I guess every democrat state would say they need millions of illegals to fit their demand.
His idea is cute, but I think the Supremacy Clause might have something to say about that.
Curtis could wave his bedazzled magic wand and say, “BAM! You’re legal.” In-state he could pretend it’s a thing, but pertaining to the whole USA it would be a joke.
“Blacks vote for Blacks.....Women vote for women.....Mormons vote for Mormons.”
2/3 true. The women in my orbit almost never vote for women. And Marsha Blackburn is the next woman I won’t be voting for. (Unless she wins the Primary, in which case I’ll vote against the RAT.)
