Trump rips ‘unbelievably duplicitous’ Iran for denying peace talks after he scrapped weekend strike plans

President Trump on Monday blasted Iran’s leadership as “unbelievably duplicitous,” accusing Tehran of privately pursuing peace talks with the US while publicly denying any negotiations were taking place days after he called off a massive military campaign planned for the weekend.

In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed Iranian officials had sought a meeting with the US before turning around and insisting they were only in talks with Oman over plans for the Strait of Hormuz.

“They ask for a meeting, some would say ‘beg,’ talks begin, with more scheduled in the immediate future, and they say, openly and proudly, that they’re not having any discussions, that nothing is being talked about, and they’re only dealing with ‘Oman,'” Trump wrote.

The president also scoffed at Iran’s claims that it controls the Strait of Hormuz, arguing the strategic waterway is effectively under US control because of the American naval blockade.

“They … give their usual blather in saying, the Strait of Hormuz will be operated powerfully by them, when it is already completely controlled by the United States Navy and our ‘Blockade’ or, as some say, ‘The United States Wall of Steel!’ he said.

He added that nothing would reach Iran unless the US allowed it — once again calling for “total surrender” by Tehran if a deal cannot be reached.

“Nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through, unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished,” he wrote.

Trump’s broadside came after he called off a military operation against Iran over the weekend he described as the biggest since “World War II,” choosing instead to continue pursuing a diplomatic solution while leaving the threat of force on the table.

Despite Iran’s public denials, Trump insisted negotiations are ongoing.

March 26, 2026, Trump claimed that Iran “is begging to make a deal” to end the war On April 15, Trump told Fox Business News, “I think it’s close to over, I view it as very close to over.”

Again on April 15, Trump said, “I think they [Iran] want to make a deal very badly.”

On April 17, Trump claimed that Iran had “agreed to everything,” that “I think we will get a deal in the next day or two.”

On April 30, Trump claimed that Iran is “ “dying to make a deal”

Rinse, repeat

Trump is a sucker.

I think he's playing his remaining war supporters as suckers with BS about Iran wanting a deal, but in doing so he is making himself look like the sucker.

Trump has been the 2nd best president of my lifetime, but right now he’s either lying or he’s the biggest dumbass on the planet.

This is a travesty of transparency.

The idea that Trump would mislead the American people like this is grotesque.

Get the-hell-out or nuke the Iranians like the Israelis want you to.

You say that, but Iran is effectively a castle under siege and rapidly running out of supplies.

Time is not on Iran’s side.

Their GDP is down 2/3, their burn rate is up, and the damage is now beyond GDP. Things will start to collapse.

President Trump, I love ya, I voted for you THREE TIMES and Id do it again and again, but seriously dude, you are being SO played by Iran, its laughable at this point. IRAN DOES NOT WANT A DEAL OK, they want high gas prices so Trump loses the midterms and gets impeached day 1, which is going to happen REGARDLESS OF THIS WAR so seriously just 1 bomb, just 1 time, a massive attack and trust me Iran will fold..just kill their remaining leadership and POOF this whole mess is over with, the Strait will open itself

It’s not the main problem. But one problem is that Trump seems driven to discuss with the entire world what’s going on at every hour of the negotiations.

At a minimum, that leads to confusion.
It also dilutes the statements that really are important.

Trump is running out the clock. Waiting to do something until after the midterms to minimize damage to the GOP. At least I think he is.

Did you believe that when they said it about a much more comprehensive sanctions regime on Iraq and North Korea?

Time is not on Trump's side.
