Just damn.
Fires all over west of Spokane now. Heavy smoke in north Idaho. High, dry winds tonight. This sucks.
Between these fires and the impending shutdown of the Hoover Dam, this is going to be really interesting.
A bump for that excellent app - I’m using it now. Looks like a new one, the Fairview fire, is northeast of Spokane. I’m choking on its smoke.
THE 3 DAY SHUT DOWN WAS OVER CABLE ISSUES. IT IS OPEN AGAIN.
Maybe, but looking at the Watch Duty link I posted, the heel of the fire looks to be along a road (Euclid Road). I fought a fire (Kirby fire in WY) last week that had that kind of start profile. That means more likely someone dragging chains or a flat tire with the rim sparking on the pavement, something like that. Or something dumb like a tossed cigarette. But my guess would be something sparking off a vehicle as described above, if I had to guess.
There is also a railroad track running through that same spot. We had a train fire south of our town this spring that sparked a wildfire. But if that was the case I’d guess it would already be mentioned because it’s hard to miss a burning train.
Holy buckets! There’s a VA Hospital in a “Go” zone according to watch duty.
