Madison mayor says encampment not sustainable or safe (Madison, WI Still Under Siege)

MADISON, Wis.— Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said the encampment at Williamson and Baldwin streets "is not sustainable or safe."

"There are a number of immediate public safety and public health concerns that must not be ignored." Rhodes-Conway said.

The mayor said there aren't enough bathrooms to support the number of people gathering in that area. "

"There is all-day food preparation taking place without refrigeration, sinks, and other basics." Rhodes-Conway said "Any time a street is blocked, it can impede fire and EMS response to our community." "The middle of city streets is not a safe location for people to be sleeping in tents."

Rhodes-Conway referenced a 31-year-old man arrested on Wednesday after police said he entered the intersection of Williamson and Baldwin streets around 5:15 p.m. and began cursing at the crowd and kicking signs. He pushed one person and punched another. He was arrested and faces charges of substantial battery, battery and disorderly conduct with a hate crime enhancer.

Additionally, the city said it received multiple complaints about people being threatened from both protesters and neighbors.

Rhodes-Conway said residents in the Marquette neighborhood have reached out.

"We are also hearing from Marquette neighborhood residents that they can't sleep, can't conduct business, are experiencing financial hardships, and can't safely move around the neighborhood." Rhodes-Conway said. "Those who also want real change after the police shooting of Corey Ruiz are increasingly failing to understand and losing patience with a protest tactic that seems misaligned with bringing the community together."

The mayor said the entire community needs to take this seriously.

"Our first priority needs to be the health and safety of our entire community. Rhodes-Conway said."

Rhodes-Conway said city staff, local officials and neighborhood leaders are continuing to connect with residents and local businesses to address ongoing concerns in the Marquette neighborhood.

"The goal remains to engage residents, community organizers, and the business community to work on a path that prioritizes safety, action, and remembering Corey Ruiz." Rhodes-Conway said.

Madison published a FAQ page to address the common inquiries it has been receiving.

Residents are asked to reach out if they need help. The 988 Lifeline is available for immediate support.

The mayor: “The middle of city streets is not a safe location for people to be sleeping in tents.”

Who knew?

These people would actually be funny except for the power they have.

What can you expect from a lesbian individual who is already mentally ill. Simple solution; send them back to their home countries.

They are hand wringing about this occupation, but will never come to terms that the National Guard could eradicate this. Nothing to make Trump look good EVER..

The landlords and financiers in Madistan know full well that having another George Floyd of Fentanyl Square is going to drive Madistan further into failure.

They might be raging leftists but they think of themselves and their wallets first.

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is in a lose-lose situation.

You’re the (sorry) mayor of Madisonstan, Satya (or whatever your real name is). Start acting like it and do your job.

I should think that when the “encampment” realizes the facility is inadequate to facilitate them, they would be smart enough to leave. I guess it comes down to who has the greatest willpower, those who actually live there, or the intruders.

They’ll leave when the paychecks quit coming.

Search for Corey Ruiz Wisconsin does not include the detail that Ruiz stabbed a police officer with a knife during the arrest.

This fiasco started on July 22nd. This is the first we’ve heard from her, 9 days in.

Then why did the mayor issue them a permit? They DO have a protest permit like any other group would, correct?

In the Scott Walker days, they would just walk over to the Capital floor to defecate.

And that’s not the FIRST time he’s stabbed a cop, either. The guy was 31 years old and had close to 40 arrests, many were FELONIES, under his belt.

Liberal judges kept releasing him from jail. He had racked up something like 200 YEARS worth of jail/prison time!

What was he doing back on the streets? If he was in prison where he BELONGED, he’d still be alive but the fruit loops in Madistan would still be going to bat for some other loser...

It truly Is amazing and dumb-founding that in every single one of these protests or occupations the left outright LIES about the facts that we all have seen on video and no one in the media ever calls them out for these lies. Go back to Freddy Grey, Saint George Floyd, Saint Trayyvon “Skittles n’ Lean Drank” Martin, ANTIFA, the idiot woman that got shot after hitting an ICE agent with her car, the man that was shot when he brandished his gun to ICE, Kyle Rittenhouse using his gun in self defense when the mob tried to kill him etc. etc.

“Satya Rhodes-Conway’s mother, Anne Rhodes, is an artist. Her father, Bob Conway, is a manager of art collections. Her parents divorced when she was five years old, and her mother subsequently came out as a lesbian. Satya Rhodes-Conway and Amy Klusmeier have been partners since 2009”

-

Well, how very bohemian of them.....apparently it doesn’t lend itself to leadership qualities however.

-

*side note.....a lesbian with hyphenated last name.....that’s a first.

Is it mean that I kinda wish for a food-borne illness or sanitation-related illness to sweep over this encampment?
