'They can suck it': dozens of soldiers walk out of base in protest against commanders | Watch

Dozens of soldiers from the Givati Brigade’s Tzabar Battalion left the Sde Teiman base without authorization on Thursday afternoon after commanders removed signs and symbols tied to a longstanding battalion tradition, prompting widespread coverage in Arab media that portrayed the incident as a rebellion within the IDF.

The soldiers were filmed leaving the base while chanting an obscene slogan against their officers. Some reportedly left their weapons behind before returning home. Videos and images from the scene quickly spread on X and were amplified by Lebanese, Syrian, Qatari and Iraqi outlets aligned with or sympathetic to the Iranian-led regional axis.

According to soldiers in the battalion, the removed symbols had accompanied them during fighting in Gaza and Lebanon and were passed down from one recruitment class to the next. They viewed the items as representing their connection to the battalion and its traditions. The dispute intensified after the battalion commander personally removed the symbols, an act documented in video footage.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said the walkout followed the commander’s decision to remove signs connected to irregular incidents involving the battalion’s “veteran-junior” tradition.

“A short time ago, soldiers from a combat battalion began leaving their base without their commanders’ authorization,” the military said. “The incident is being investigated and addressed by commanders. This conduct is inconsistent with IDF values and with what is expected of its soldiers.”

Hmm. . . . no details on what these “symbols” might have been?

That article was so information-free that it qualified the writer for employment in the NYT or WaPo.

If MY country was totally surrounded by literally bloodthirsty savages who live just to kill me and my family I’d put my personal preferences aside for the sake of survival.

I just assumed the Israeli Army. But I read the title and for a short (very short) heartbeat thought it was US troops somewhere. But it wasn’t, no matter what the likes of the seditious scumbag Mark Kelly and his like wish would happen.

An article like this would have been scrubbed by the Israel Military Censor prior to publication.

Hence the lack of anything substantive.

If they could wrap President Trump into it, it is Pulitzer worthy for sure.

” I’d put my personal preferences aside for the sake of survival.”

I worked for the American division of an Israeli defense company. Israeli culture is nothing like our culture. They are super combative. Let’s say I want X. The Israeli also wants X. He’s going to fight me over it. He’ll go to the mat and beat me up. In the end, he’ll agree to X, but X oh his terms. Where’s the logic? It was crazy making. An Israeli told me, “If you have two Israelis, you’ll have four opinions. They will not be internally consistent.”

I’ve heard that saying about Poles. Maybe it does come from the old country.

Yeah, good point. I clicked on the link to the original article (Ynet, I think) and the brief videos had been blurred. I suspect the “traditional signs and symbols” were very offensive and would create controversy — and further anti-Israel sentiment — if revealed publicly.

No. It is more of a culturally Jewish thing than a Polish thing. My wife attributes my stubbornness to the Polish part. I don't deny that part. But that's different than being internally inconsistent or having multiple opinions.

May be fake news. However it is no secret that the IDF has been in continual serious combat over the past three years. Many of their soldiers are experiencing the “PTS” and stress that only combat veterans can appreciate.

Israel is a diverse society. The IDF reflects that diversity. No telling what the symbol may have been but the lack of detail in the article is suspicious.

The Israeli Left hates the Israeli Right more than Hezbollah, Hamas or the Iranians.
