Egyptian officials have officially confirmed that an Iranian drone strike was responsible for damaging two US energy tankers at the port of Damietta. Following the strike, the United States carried out limited conventional air raids, opting against a broader military escalation despite warnings of a much harsher response.
Egyptian authorities officially confirmed Thursday that an explosion damaging two American energy tankers at Damietta Port was caused by an Iranian drone strike. Egyptian officials emphasized that an investigation into the incident remains underway, noting that no group has formally claimed responsibility for the operation.
The official confirmation from Cairo follows statements made by Iranian sources to The New York Times acknowledging that the attack was executed using a drone. According to those sources, the strike was intended as a signal to demonstrate Tehran’s capacity to disrupt international shipping lanes and global energy supplies if the US escalates military tension in the region. The sources did not specify whether the drone was launched directly from Iran or by a regional proxy, nor did they disclose the launch site.
Following the attack, US military forces carried out targeted air strikes against select proxy positions in the region to counter threats to maritime traffic. However, the military actions were restricted to standard conventional raids. This limited response diverged from public statements by President Donald Trump, who had promised a far stronger reaction after warning that the US would hit back hard.

Egypt better govern its airspace.
“ Just because Iran claimed it, does not mean the drone flew from, was controlled from or, most importantly, was targeted from Iran.”
So you claim someone else launched a drone at a target Iran threatened to attack (on its official news channel) two days before the attack? And for which Iran admitted responsibility?
The conspiracy goes to the top!
"No sweat, Bibi. Pay it no mind. we're still BFF."
An unarmed tanker is just a target.
Any boat sitting at dock is a target, especially one that doesn’t move a lot.
This tanker is essentially a slightly-movable gas processing facility.
I note its back in service.
Frankly, I wouldn’t even bother myself with a drone attack on a ship like this. A U.S.-owned vessel flying a foreign flag shouldn’t be given any protection by the U.S. government in foreign or international waters at all.
We need to be arming these ships.
Houston, I believe we've found the problem. /s
(imo this was just a test of what's to come)
What use would weapons be on an LNG tanker sitting at dock?
Do you think Egypt (or any port) would allow it?
What kind of weapons? Cannons? AAA?
What!? The news said explosions hit those tankers.
Just last night, the Egyptians said it was an engine room fire.
Sea Sparrow/CIWS unit with built-in radar.
Link please.
It’s not about “conspiracy” it’s about capability. If a proxy carried out the attack from within Egypt, than Iran does not have long range C2 and ISR capabilities but may have a 5th column in Egypt or nearby.
YES, that’s it the JOOS did it.
Just to draw us into a bigger war.
YOU are SO predictable.
Just like the JOOS purposely let 1300 of their own citizens die, just so they could invade Gaza. To take it over and build the canal through the Gaza.
Is that you Tucker? or Meaghan ?
Mmmmmmmmm....feel better now after that rant?
Musta boosted your zero self-esteem up a notch or two.
If not, try again, poor baby.
Yeah, no port would allow that.
No, just calling out you as the Jew hating Troll that you are.
People like you need to be banned from this forum.
You obviously have a daily agenda.
WE NEED A ZOT!
Wow.....you better work on that zero self-esteem, pronto.
It’s eating you up alive.......not good, sweetie.
