The trove of Covid-related documents Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has released in recent days has revived the question of accountability for the government’s Covid response — specifically for those who crafted that response, like Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), whose pandemic policies were based on a web of lies.
Portions of Fauci’s personal diary and emails released by Paul reveal what can only be described as a pattern of deliberate deception — about Covid’s origins, its fatality, Fauci’s role in school closures, the effectiveness of the Covid vaccine and adverse reactions to it, and U.S. funding for gain-of-function research in China that may have led to the pandemic.
There’s almost nothing, it seems, Fauci didn’t lie about. But his lies about Covid’s origins and U.S. funding for gain-of-function research stand out because they’re closely related, and they might give federal prosecutors a chance finally to indict him for lying to Congress — if he repeats those lies when he appears before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee on Wednesday. Fauci of course received a legally dubious preemptive pardon from President Joe Biden the day before he left office in 2025, covering a period stretching back to 2014. That pardon likely dissuaded Trump’s Justice Department from pursuing perjury charges against Fauci, but in any case the statute of limitations for those crimes expired on May 11 of this year.
As Hans Mahncke has argued in these pages, Wednesday’s Senate hearing offers an opportunity for lawmakers to elicit from Fauci the same false responses he’s given in the past about the origins of Covid and the role of the National Institutes of Health in funding gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China...

If Fauci is to be held accountable, state DAs will need to prosecute him. Biden’s aides gave Fauci immunity at the federal level with that retroactive pardon for any possible federal crime he could have committed dating back to 2012.
The Real Anthony Fauci became the #1 non-fiction hardcover bestseller despite being the most censored book of the decade. Bookstores, including national chains, refused to carry it. Libraries refused to carry it. Every major newspaper declined to review it. The New York Times refused to publish a paid advertisement for the book and made it #7 on its bestseller list, even though it outsold any other book by thousands of copies.
YouTube took down videos of a book signing. Amazon shadow banned it. Twitter wouldn’t let the publisher promote it.
Despite all of that, 1.4 million Americans bought the book because they were tired of the lies and they wanted their freedom back. Then today, with hundreds of millions of Americans demanding the truth, Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times at his Senate hearing. The American people waited six years for answers. Today, they got silence. But that silence told us all we needed to know.

Maybe the worst pardon in history... Fauci likely caused a multitude of deaths with his lies... Lies that led to an unprecedented upheaval of society which resulted in countless suicides and the needless deaths of thousands of senior citizens locked away from their loved ones. The man has no shame and he will never apologize... And because of Biden’s pardon, he will never face any proper justice.
This evil SOB was and still is the mainstream media’s darling... And they should be ashamed... It’s akin to supporting Dr. Josef Mengele and being proud of his evilness.

Biden’s pardon only applies to federal crimes. Any state is free to indict and try Fauci in a state court. Likewise, individuals who were harmed by Fauci’s actions in violation of state laws can sue him in state civil courts.
If the table was turned and Fauci was the product of a Republican administration and had been pardoned by a Republican governor there is no doubt he would be facing criminal trials and civil suits in several progressive Democrat controlled states. Donald Trump, members of his first administration, and wealthy supporters of Trump (Mike Lindell) faced numerous criminal investigations, trials and civil actions. The Democrats showed the path. Will Republicans do the same?
Perhaps a federal law:
No federal funds shall be used to modify the genomic material of a virus that causes an ill effect in a mammal or bird.
The main purpose of legislative hearings should be to craft legislation.

The funding for the Wuhan lab used intermediaries to avoid detection. Eco Health Alliance (Peter Daszak) was one such organization.
