US President Donald Trump said that the United States is currently negotiating with Iran and will return to war if the talks fail, in an interview with Axios on Monday.
"We are in very deep talks with Iran," Trump told Axios. "If they don't work out, we will go back to very strong military action."
Trump said that he paused US strikes on Iran to give negotiations another chance, Axios reported, with the president adding that he would not give the talks with Tehran "much time."
"Either it goes fast or not at all," said Trump.
Trump added that countries involved in the talks told him not to "fire," leading to his decision to hold off on the renewal of major strikes.
Trump's comments come as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heads to Washington for a meeting with the president, the Prime Minister's Office confirmed earlier on Monday.
"I am going to talk to Bibi about the fact that if I weren't president, Iran would have had nuclear weapons by now and Israel would have been destroyed," Trump said of the upcoming meeting.
The two world leaders are expected to discuss the situation with Iran, among several other issues.
"From my experience as prime minister, during these complex times we must act with both great determination and great wisdom," said Netanyahu. "I am embarking on this mission with one clear goal: to ensure the security, strength, and future of our dear State of Israel."
Netanyahu will also attend the funeral of Lindsey Graham, who died on July 12 following a brief, sudden illness.

RE: We are in very deep talks with Iran,” Trump told Axios
Which Iran? As long as the IRGC ( the REAL POWER ) isn’t involved these “talks” ( note the quotes) are a waste of time.
We should use this time to monitor them and re-arm. Hostilities will resume in 1…2…3
The Iran yoinking the football away from Donald Brown and sadly the US.
How many wins would this be?
Here we go again.
Deep Talks?
Talk is cheap. Deep Talks are even cheaper.
If I were a betting man, I’d bet on the return to war. How can you possibly negotiate with proven liars who hold nothing but contempt for you?
Where is the guyatollah?
Quit screwing around with them and settle up all the family business in the space of one hour like Don Corleone.
Or, declare victory and get out.
Negotiations with any Muslim or Muslim group is a waste of time because Muslims can NEVER be trusted!
Idiot.
I might be pleasantly surprised tomorrow.
But it sure looks like Iran has no intention of giving Trump what he wants. And I can’t see how more of this limited bombing will help.
So Trump could ratchet it up: Bomb bridges, power stations, etc. But even then, the IRGC probably won’t give in. So bomb forever?
Or Trump finds a way to declare victory now, and ends the conflict.
Neither option looks good.
Any so-called DEAL, pause, or ceasefire only helps the side that is losing, not the side that is winning.
I have a time machine mr president, and I have visted the future and can report back that... negotiations with muslims will always fail.
So please continue to wipe them out now, and stop stopping!
Anymore, this looks like our only option.
Three options:
1) Someone is going to have to have boots on the ground to get the uranium and collapse the site.
2) Bomb power, comm, runways, roads and railways. Cut off all communication and risk having the public turn away from the freedom they want.
3) Do nothing and leave risking a rapid development of a nuke.
This is why nothing has been done to Iran in 50 years. Every option sucks and Iran knows it.
They will not work out. You can go straight to the very strong military action. He seemed to get it a few weeks ago when he called them scum and said he was done negotiating with them.
China requested a 10 day pause because their oil requirements are getting hammered. I would imagine the real negotiation is between Xi and Trump through their Pakistan lackeys and Qatar. I doubt the US is communicating with any real Iranians. I think this pause leads to the final battle here when Israel will be forced to enter the conflict and remove the remaining Iranian leadership. Things are never what they seem..but the fact is we are resupplying ourselves and can on a much larger scale than Iran.

We know from all of Muslim history that they are lying. So the "talks" are likely a strategic pause for staging, intelligence gathering, ally diplomacy, etc.
