Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson officially secured the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate on Sunday, capping off a fast-moving replacement process that began after Democratic nominee Graham Platner withdrew from the race earlier this month.
Meeting at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Democratic delegates overwhelmingly selected Jackson as their nominee, giving him 566 votes to 5 votes for fellow candidate Saundra Pelletier. The decisive margin ended weeks of speculation over who would replace Platner on the November ballot and sets up a high-profile general election against six-term U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine).
Jackson accepted the nomination before an enthusiastic convention crowd, thanking delegates, campaign volunteers, union supporters, his family, and fellow Democratic candidates who entered what he described as an “extraordinary moment” for the party.
Throughout his acceptance speech, Jackson framed his campaign around organized labor and working-class voters, repeatedly drawing on his background as a fifth-generation logger from Allagash and recounting his leadership during protests by Maine loggers against Canadian timber companies. Jackson argued that the struggle of loggers decades ago mirrors the economic challenges facing working families today.
“We’re only made to feel powerless when we stand alone,” Jackson told delegates. “That’s why I entered public life.”
Jackson outlined an unapologetically progressive platform that includes Medicare for All, expanded union organizing rights, restoring abortion rights nationwide, building more affordable housing, protecting Social Security and Medicare, confronting corporate price gouging, and standing against President Donald Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He also pledged to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with Maine’s LGBTQ community.

A female lawmaker said she was frightened because she thought Jackson was aiming the water bottle at her after he became disgruntled with her. That same lawmaker allegedly decided to not run for reelection because of that incident.”
Democrats always tout democracy. What they did in Maine is not democracy. They had 500 people vote for a candidate for Senate. They easily could’ve had a primary August. Florida has its primary August 18. Maine could have added a primary easily.
He violates Maine’s “sore loser” law, which prohibits running for a different office once losing a primary ...which he did. Could be challenged.
Bottom line: smooth sailing for Collins and holding R senate majority

The only reason it is supposed to matter is who gets to set debate and the agenda. The reality though is named John Thune. Smh.
As awful as Thune is the alternative is a nightmare. Collins is good for only one thing, to add to the R seats. That’s it.
For those who are unaware of Jackson’s legislative record, he’s Graham Platner — but without (as far as we know) the Nazi tattoo.
This flannel-shirt, working-class, “he-man” lumberjack is every bit the thoroughly radical leftist beta male soyboi as Platner is. Who acts tough against women sometimes to make himself feel like less of a wuss.
Therefore he fits his party to a T, and fits what just about 50% of the Maine electorate is looking for as well. Get ready to say goodbye Suzie, though she has beaten the odds before and may (and better) do so again.
This “Torricelli” move by Maine Democrats is highly likely to work every bit as well as the one in New Jersey did back in 2002.
Combined with the near-certain Senate loss in NC, the near-impossible pickup (which was supposed to at least be *plausible*) in Georgia and the vastly unlikely chance of an upset in New Hampshire, Republicans desperately need to hold onto ALL other vulnerable seats and desperately need to somehow pick up Michigan.
If you’re relying on Michigan to save the day.... well, look at all of their Senate elections in the last 30 years for a dose of reality. An upset *could* happen this time around, but people say that every time.
False headline saying he “WON!!!!” He didn’t win crap. They installed this creep just like they installed Kamala when Slow Biden crapped his pants after the debate. They should be stuck with Platner but no Dems always find a way out.
It’s not clear if the Sore Loser law works in this case.
He may be ineligible to run:
“Jackson lost the Democratic gubernatorial primary in June 2026. Republican State Rep. James White argues that Maine election statutes (Title 21-A) prohibit a candidate from seeking multiple federal, state, or county offices within the same election cycle.”
Current Status: Rep. White has formally requested Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows to investigate Jackson’s eligibility.
I’m guess she’ll rule Jackson eligible to run:
“Appointed by the Maine Legislature rather than elected by popular vote, she is a Democrat and civil rights advocate who previously served as executive director of the ACLU of Maine and in the Maine Senate from 2016 to 2020.”

This interpretion hinges on whether a primary is part of a larger process of an “election”. A primary selects a nommiee for election.
I am not a lawyer, but I have reviewed the state law and have not seen it is clear one way or the other.
Various parts of the law seem to contrdict each other.
Every single politician in New England is a steaming pile with the exception of Paul Le Page.

In 2020, Jon Ossoff won 50.6% while Joe Biden won 49.5% in the Georgia. So Ossoff ran about 1.1% of Joe Biden.
In 2024, Harris won 48.5 % (to Trump’s 50.7%). In 2026 Ossoff should run at least 1.1% ahead of what Harris did in 2024, which means Ossoff should get at least 49.6% in 2026. It seems Democrats will keep Georgia in 2026.
In 2020 Collins won 51% in Maine while Trump won 44% in Maine.
In 2024 Trump won 45.5% in Maine. Collins ran 7% ahead of Trump in Maine in 2020. Because of the Platner mess, I wouldn’t be surprised if Collins wins 52.5% in 2026. In summary, Democrats keep Georgia and Republicans keep Maine.
