President Donald Trump on Friday ordered his administration to install signs outside the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History directing visitors to what the White House describes as "accurate" information about the nation's past.
The executive order instructs the National Park Service, which maintains the sidewalks outside the museum, to place signs informing visitors about a White House report released July 4 that criticized the Smithsonian's portrayal of American history. Trump also directed the creation of a temporary exhibit intended to correct what his administration considers inaccurate historical information.
The move follows a report from Trump's Domestic Policy Council that accused the Smithsonian and the National Museum of American History of failing to present history "in a way that is inspiring, unifying, and worthy of our great republic."
Because the Smithsonian operates independently of the executive branch, Trump cannot directly remove museum leadership or unilaterally change exhibits. Instead, the order targets federal property outside the museum that falls under National Park Service jurisdiction.
National Museum of American History Director Anthea M. Hartig defended the museum during congressional testimony this week.
"As we continue to fact check the report, we unwaveringly attest that it does not fairly or accurately characterize the full body of work at the museum," Hartig told lawmakers. "There is always room for improvement. But I also know the beauty and the inspiration and the expertise that lies in our collections, our exhibits, and our programming."
Friday's order builds on Trump's broader effort to reshape the Smithsonian's exhibits.
In March, Trump signed an executive order directing the Smithsonian's Board of Regents to eliminate what the administration described as "improper, divisive or anti-American ideology" from the institution's museums.

Fine by me. Probably will just cause people who believe the crap at the Smithsonian to believe it even more and will just make the management of the museum more determined to spew troublesome propaganda.
But, what the hell, poke them in the eye again. They deserve it.
These little guys are calming entertainment in the meantime. I think they are a whole lot better than just about anything on the idiot box.
What’s sad is it takes a Trump to do it. Maybe it the position of POTUS. A senator speaks out and he’s one in a hundred. Gets called a quack-has no friends to back him up. Can’t do it when the guy speaking can take the action necessary from the WH.
The recent SCOTUS Slaughter decision doesn’t apply for institutions like the Smithsonian, which is a congressional governance board. So signs are basically what he can do
The American nation will not survive if it allows its cultural, educational and telecommunication institutions to be controlled by people who hate America,its heritage and at their core wish it to be destroyed.
Even if it has merit, I think stuff like this is viewed by most people as pissing in the wind and not relevant to their daily lives. Kind of like all the time and money wasted on the Kennedy Center. No one that matters gives a damn about the Kennedy Center…

Many, many years ago, we ceased most of our magazine subscriptions. Smithsonian, Nat Geo, Scientific American, etc. They became woke before woke was even a word.
We still subscribe to the online and print versions of The American Spectator.

I was there a year ago last May. The criticisms are completely on point t. It’s become a woke and DEI playground. I agree with others that the signs are all Trump can do, and I therefore agree.

Texas has around 5.5 million Christian public-school students, and less than 25,000 Jewish students, and is leading efforts to reshape Christian education.
Texans say, “Bible reading is just the beginning. Texas accomplished something big.”
Texas has become a testing ground for Trump’s pledge to expand religious expression in schools nationwide.
