Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has voted repeatedly for resolutions to withdraw U.S. troops from the military conflict with Iran, told reporters Wednesday that the United States is “worse off” than it was before President Trump launched the war in late February.
“I think the Iran war has not been a success. I’ve been opposed to the Iran war from the beginning. I think by any objective measure we’re worse off than we were before the war,” Paul said on Capitol Hill.
“If you look at the militarization of the Strait of Hormuz, that’s never happened before,” he said. “There’s not an easy way to un-militarize the strait. … From that point of view, I think we’re in worse shape.”
Paul is one of a growing number of GOP lawmakers who fear Trump’s decision to launch joint strikes with Israel against Iran has put the administration and the nation in a difficult position.
Iranian threats against ships in the Strait of Hormuz have caused the price of Brent crude oil to rise to nearly $100 a barrel and the national average price of gas to rise to more than $4 a gallon.

Good thing Rand Paul wasn’t around during World War Eleven.
My complaint, too little too late. We should have already neutralized Kharg Island, this can be done with a few pin prick strikes to disable w/o totally destroying the infrastructure. 2nd, key bridges and utilities should have been disabled.
Whatever you may think of how Trump is proceeding, never forget that.
Paul is correct. The United States is worse off than before the war started. Money spent. Lives lost. Fuel inflation. I don’t see how anyone could argue against that.
But is the region worse off? Because it wasn’t Trump’s goal here to protect the United States. His goal was to stabilize the region.
That region question cannot be answered yet with any certainty.
Wins/looses are not short run measures of the success or failure of a war. If the war lessens the number of terrorist attacks around the world, I think the war is a success. Keeping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is also a long run win. For Paul to make any kind of judgement call now is premature and, as a grown adult, he should know better. This is uninformed political posturing.
He’s not wrong.
I won’t be surprised if this traitor runs as a 3rd party spoiler and likely handing the country to the rats.
worse off? only because we haven’t finished the job ... too much hesitation, delays, patently un-worthwhile attempts at “negotiating” -— lots of talk, bluster... but we still hold back, restrain our great USAF and USN from completing the tasks PDJT set forth for them.

This military operation is actually just a continuation of the War on Terror, which has never ended.
Taking out the state sponsor, ground zero for global terrorism, is no different than the elimination of AlQueda, ISIS, or any other bunch of jihadi killers. It just happens to be a group that has hijacked a nation, making it appear to be a war against a country. It’s not. It’s a fight in the battle against terrorism.
He would not do that but others like Massie and MTG sound very outspoken
actually, Rand,i need not obsess on whether we might sustain a nuclear attack during this diversion - which is a bit of a relief. thank you, Potus. and that we are and have been destroying their missile capacity is good for our soldiers in ME and Europe. may it continue. i hope the beleaguered citizenry of Iran takes heart from our continued follow-up on its nefarious leadership.

Seriously, people think $4 per gallon gasoline is equivalent to the Great Depression. What a bunch of spoiled rich, panzy wimps we have in our nation now.
It depends. I think Kharg Island should be taken by the IDF and the oil flow shut off, rather than destroy the island. The reason is because, if there is regime change, the new gov’t will need a source of revenue for rebuilding and helping the Iranian people. If it looks like the current regime stays in power, THEN blow it off the face of the earth. That choice won’t be easy.
Very easy to start military action, a lot harder to end it. I know Trump is not going to repeat George W’s mistakes and send ground troops in. That’ll keep this from escalating further, anyway.
