Rubio accuses Iran of flying IRGC personnel into Yemen as Houthi threat escalates

Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Iran on Wednesday of flying members of its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps into Yemen, saying Tehran’s actions helped ignite a renewed confrontation between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.

"They decided to send direct flights from Tehran into Yemen, carrying IRGC elements and others into the country," Rubio told reporters. "And the Saudis responded to it."

Rubio did not identify the flights, specify how many IRGC personnel were allegedly transported or provide evidence supporting the allegation.

He made the remarks while attending an annual gathering of Association of Southeast Asian Nations foreign ministers in Manila, Philippines, where the U.S.-Iran conflict and threats to international shipping were among the central security concerns.

The Houthis have declared a blockade targeting Saudi-linked vessels in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, threatening to widen the conflict and disrupt another critical global trade route.

Yesterday 2x super tankers with Saudi oil were headed out via the Red Sea. They turned around, back to the Saudi port where the oil was loaded, after being threatened by the Houthis. Who need some scorched earth carpet bombing from us.

Why are we letting them have open airspace?

I’m presuming we haven’t used the B52s because of remaining concerns about AAA.

To my knowledge, the Houthis don’t have air defenses that can reach out and touch a bomber at high altitude.

With JDAMS, we could drop from the top of the envelope.

That's a question for Trump to answer.

Boots on the ground would fix it. That and an occupying force. Just not ours. The Saudis-would their people approve?
Who would occupy Lebanon the UN? Israel has it’s hands full in the Gaza.

“Why didn’t we shoot it down?”

Actually the Saudi were monitoring the first IRGC to Houthis flight and bombed the landing runways. Unfortunately the IRGC plane landed somewhere else in Yemen.

The Houthi are imbeciles n clowns. So IRGC is sending its boots on the ground to to organize Houthi missiles n drones to attack Bab-el-Mandeb straits shipping

Hard to believe the IRCG has the people and weapons to spare as their hands are full these days. The Saudis were pretty ruthless in dealing with them awhile back. Just dealing with them on their level. I don’t see how the threat can be entirely eliminated as those drones can be hidden. Ground troops combing the entire area would be dangerous and take a lot of time.

"Why are we letting them have open airspace?

This can't be accurate. We have destroyed their Air Force. Open air space cannot be a problem. The problem is an inaccurate / incomplete mission statement given by the POTUS to the Joint Military Force.

MISSION: Total destruction of the enemy (Read: Iran and Proxi forces) his means and will to resist.

If they kill off the IRCG too fast, it’s harder to justify the trillion dollar defense budget. This is not difficult to figure out. Rubio keeps slipping up and saying the quiet parts outloud.
