Much of the world is dealing with relentless heat, but Antarctica just recorded the world’s lowest temperature (-199F) in over a decade

Much of the U.S. and Europe have been facing record high temperatures and relentless heat domes this summer, but the Earth’s most southern continent just recorded a new low temperature.

On July 18, Concordia Station in Antarctica hit minus 119 degrees. This is the lowest temperature recorded on Earth since 2012, per The Weather Channel. It is also within a half degree of Concordia’s all-time low temperature.

While we are facing a hot, sweaty summer — Salt Lake City experienced its hottest day on record on July 12 when temperatures reached 109 degrees — Antarctica is in the dead of winter.

Concordia is in the right spot for extreme cold, located over 10,000 feet up on the interior ice sheet. There, the air is thin and bone-dry, meaning there’s almost nothing to hold on to what little heat exists.

Concordia’s minus 119 degrees last week is still short of Earth’s all-time record of low temperature. On July 21, 1983, Russia’s Vostok Station in Antarctica reached minus 128.6 degrees.

Earlier this month, Death Valley reached 121 degrees, which means there was a 240 degree temperature difference on Earth in the same month.

According to the National Centers for Environmental Information, the hottest temperature ever recorded was on July 10, 1913, when Death Valley reached 134 degrees.

Please correct the title. The true record temperature is -119F. Not negative one hundred ninety nine.

My bad.

If we are to believe there is only 4.57 years left, Antartica shouldn’t be setting record lows ever again, regardless of the season.

That mistake is forgiven because you must have been shivering when you typed the number!
Cold is cold. Antarctica is the only Continent that I have not visited.
If I go, it will be the “full Monty.”
I don’t want to view it from the deck of a ship,
I want to throw some stones and snowballs!
But I won’t put my tongue on the pump handle! (grin)

If objective scientists had come out and said:

'We're not certain, but there has been an increase in annual temperatures in some regions of the world, and this may indicate that we are coming into a time of global climate change - such as has happened many times in the history of the Earth - and that has been responsible for such things as glacial lakes (e.g. the Great Lakes, Lake Louise, the Finger Lakes, etc.) and changes in growing seasons etc. It is important that we monitor this as a guide to how to react to such changes.'--

------ none of this would have been so divisive.

Unfortunately, it became a celebrity career for certain climatologists, and a political wedge for the left.
