Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said Tuesday that Republicans would “welcome” Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) into their conference if he decides to leave the Democratic Party over growing hostility to Isreal among progressive Democrats.
“Yes, we would welcome him,” Thune said when asked whether Republicans would roll out the red carpet for Fetterman if he ever decides to leave the Democratic Party.
Thune said he’s had “conversations” with the maverick Democratic senator — as have several other GOP colleagues – about a potential party switch.
“I have had conversations with him in the past as have many of my colleagues about the challenges he faces in his caucus. And there are many of us who, I think, would welcome the opportunity to have him join the Republican conference but ultimately that’s a decision that’s up to him,” Thune said.
Thune argued that the Democratic Party is “moving further and further, more radically, to the more extreme left on a lot of issues.”

How about passing the Save Act, Tom Daschle Jr?
Democrats Expel Fetterman After Repeated Warnings To Stop Supporting America
Bad idea. He is much more valuable to American freedom as a Democrat. They can’t shut him up, but if he switches he becomes just another Republican and the Democrat controlled media has an excuse to ignore him. Stay where you are John and thank you for your help.
Maybe we could trade him for you.
Thune needs to STFU and pass Save America. Nothing he says otherwise means squat.
According to his votes Fetterman would be mostly a liberal republican.
But that’s ok it’s Pennsylvania, not Alabama. Liberal republicans in Illinois, Maine, Minnesota and many more are always welcome. They block democrat control of seats.
Its guys like Thune who are blocking a conservative from being in what otherwise should be a conservative seat.
Yeah, what’s the sense in adding to your majority if you don’t use it, Traitor Thune?
Thune was Mitch’s hand picked replacement and he has proven to be the obstructionist rino we knew he would be.
He may need to jump to keep the Senate committees Republicanish.
And to (eventually) make it through the communist-dominated base of the Democrat primary.
That’s stupid. Let him be the one sane Democrat.
Yes...what you wrote. He is actually more like a real democrat. He is NOT a Republican.
I didn’t like him for a few years and still refer to him as “Uncle Festerman”, but he is making more sense than the rest of his party and Imho, it would be better to have him count as a republican than add another democrat to the Senate.
And then he can join Thune and his band of merry men doing nothing but whine.
Thune would always welcome a fellow Democrat. Especially one opposed to the SAVE Act.
Happy to have him. Just be sure and primary him out and replace him with a conservative the next time he runs.
Uncle Fester is the most reasonable democrat left in the Senate. He is still a liberal democrat though, just a reasonable one. That makes him dead man walking whichever party he runs in next time.
All in all, the guy seems pretty normal.
This country would be a better place if that POS Thune went over to the commie party instead, AKA democrat rather than making the GOPe/Uniparty Senate a deeper purple.
I would welcome him. It increases or keeps our majority in the senate. He already has the seat so I don’t see a downside.
Someone said Fetterman’s approval at home is 19%.
If he goes with the GOP would he still vote nearly every time with the Dems’ side? Complaints or not from him, he has voted Dem on bills all along.
I still admire his courage and honesty, though. Past Senators have changed parties through the years and it was sincere.
Here’s one: Richard Shelby of Alabama
Democrat, 1987-1994
Republican, 1994-2023.
