Top Maine Senate candidates end campaigns as Troy Jackson builds Democratic support

Former state Senate President Troy Jackson is racking up support to become Maine’s next Democratic Senate nominee, with both his top opponents ending their campaigns on Sunday.

Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and physician Nirav Shah, a former top public health official in the state, both announced they would be leaving the race.

Bellows made her announcement Sunday morning, while Shah exited the race Sunday evening after Democrats across the state selected delegates to next week’s state nominating convention.

Shah threw his support behind Jackson.

“To Maine Democrats: Susan Collins will not be defeated without a united Democratic Party. And we cannot unite without treating one another with respect,” Shah said in a statement. “No matter whom you supported in this race, I urge us all to remember that in the weeks ahead.”

Bellows did not mention Jackson in her announcement, saying in a statement, “Donald Trump’s attacks on our democracy are only accelerating, and the best way that I can serve our state and country at this moment is by focusing exclusively on my role as Secretary of State.”

Like I said, a party hack would be installed into the nomination and voters would somehow think there was a process when their was definitely not.

As I understand it, Troy has only 1 sexual allegation - that’s why Platner has nor yet supported - he’s a rookie compared to him.

Maine Beer Co. owner Dan Kleban is also out. Troy has a super majority of the delegates for next week’s corination err convention even with out the 101 votes of the state committee who are automatic delagates to this spectacle.

I noted this in another thread this morning.

The convention next Saturday is going to be a corination and a campaign rally. I suspect the party managers will be happy about this process outcome.

The next step for the winner is raising money. Platner left $1.7 million in the bank, but the winning candidate cannot directly use that. He will start from scratch. Max contribution to a federal candidate is $3,500. He will need 286 of those contributions just to get to $1,000,000.

Susan Collins has $11 million in her warchest.

They next congressional and senater reports are not due until October 15 for the period ending September 30. So we will not get and idea of his strength until it is all but over.

There will be clues based on his activity. He is not wealthy, so he cannot self fund his campaign.

Looks like NBC has made their choice. If Trump keeps Congress these people are going to jump into a volcano.

Troy looks like he was "slow" in school.

In fact he looks like a fat head.

This works for me. He has a ton of skeletons that will be revealed as soon as Wash Free Beacon has some time to compile reports. Dems in Maine are cooked.

From what I read, this guy has had quite the transformation over the years. He used to be a Republican, then an Independent, and now is a Democrat. He used to hold conservative social views, he says, because of his Catholic faith, but doesn’t anymore, even though I assume he is still a Catholic. He was endorsed by DSA for governor and is pretty much running on their platform. Seems like a guy who throws stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

The only kind of republic they believe in is People’s Republic as in the context used in China.
