I’m not believing that headline.
Whenever Stalin wanted to get rid of a political opponent, he’d usually accuse that opponent of being a spy. Usually for Germany. But for a little variety, he’d sometimes say for Britain.
So, yeah. It looks like the IRGC is taking a page from Stalin’s playbook.

Just last night I watched Within the Whirlwind, about the Great Purges.
Many professors were convicted of terrorism.
The rationale was that when Kirov was assassinated, though these professors were teaching classes hundreds of miles away, because they taught the same views on "permanent revolution" as was attributed to Kirov's alleged assassins, they belonged to the conspiracy that murdered Kirov.
Didn't matter that the professors didn't know Kirov or his assassin or anyone associated with either one.
Ahmadinejad could probably enforce an MoU on a glide path to resuming his old role as the post-war Iran leader, and that's exactly what the IRGC AND Bebemossy do NOT want.
If you want Perpetual War, what do you do? You demonize the bare handful of people who could stand up a shaky but enforceable MoU.
Certain actors are not what they pretend to be.

Similar to this headline, 47 years ago the Ayatollah Khomeini executed Iran’s PM Sadek Ghobizadeh by beheading.
Like Ahmadinejad, Ghobizadeh (but educated in Western culture, with perfect English) seemed suitable for easy access to the West.
