Fetterman threatens to abandon Democrats
Axios ^ | July 16, 2026 | Avery Lotz

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said he'd leave the Democratic Party if it becomes the "anti-Israel party," though he signaled he had no plans to imminently depart the caucus.

Why it matters: Republicans currently hold a narrow Senate majority, but with midterm elections looming, Fetterman's comments could be a blow to Democrats should they flip four seats in November and regain control.

Fetterman acknowledged the Democrats' difficult Senate math when speaking Wednesday at The Hill Nation Summit: "And if we flip those four seats, then I would be 51, and ... watch what I do."

He continued, "I'm the guy that would be there that 51 as the committed Democrat."

Driving the news: Democrats have grown more disillusioned and angry toward Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as evidenced by Wednesday's vote to prevent the State Department from funding the nation.

I like Fetterman, a lot. He will frequently surprise on the upside. For a Democrat, he’s okay.

But his threat here is empty. If he leaves the Democrat Party, he will most probably become an independent and caucus with the Democrats. That’s the same as being a Democrat.

I suppose there’s a chance Fetterman might flip completely, and become a Republican. But as I see it, that chance is very small.

They’ve always been the Jew hating party and Fetterman can’t do a thing about it. They have a “proud” 200+ years tradition of hating Jews.

If he goes I and still caucuses with the D’s, it’s just for show and nothing really changes. He’ll be the same as Bernie and Angus King.

He will never go R, but if he wants to really stick it to the Dems without going R, hopefully he would go I and caucus with the R’s. That’s about the best case scenario we could hope for.

He is and will remain a rat. Bank this if he was the deciding vote on the Save act he would vote with the rats.

> I never figured out why Jews vote overwhelmingly for democrats. <

I’ll take a shot at that. American Jews have always favored the underdog. For example, many of the founders of the NAACP were American Jews.

And at one time, the Democrat Party also favored the underdog. The working poor, the sharecrop farmer, etc. So naturally many Jews gravitated to the Democrats.

But the Democrat Party is no longer the party of the working poor. They are now a radical leftist party. A party that would gleefully exploit anyone who is actually working.

Unfortunately, many Jews don’t see this. They still think it’s 1930.

I don’t think this explains everything. But I do think it’s a piece of the puzzle.

Saying he may perform some action, in this case leaving the democrat part, at an indeterminate time in the future, with no intention of actually acting? He sounds kike a republican to me.

As a Jewish friend of mine told me. They love socialism for some reason. He was the only conservative in his family. The rest were just to the left of Stalin he said. It makes no sense.

In the 1970s, the original Neocons abandoned the Democrats for the Republicans for one reason: Israel.

They kept all their other leftist baggage.

Once embedded in the GOP and conservatism, they began expelling or demonizing anyone who was solidly conservative but weak on Israel (e.g., Joe Sobran, Pat Buchanan, Sam Francis, Ron Paul).

The left has mostly successfully pushed the lie that National Socialism was right-wing (because it opposed International Socialism aka communism).

Therefore “right” anything is cast in that group as Bad. End of discussion and thought.
