Howdy, luvie.
Hope you’ve had a good day.
Busy one here and I’m ready to sit for a while.
Just sat down with some supper in time to post when the doors opened. LOL Not staying long tonight. Repub. women’s meeting in the morning.
Hey there, radu!
It was a good day except for not having a nap, but I’m not as tired as I thought I would be by this time. It was still in the 80s today, which certainly helps my mood.
Glad you came by before having to take off early. Good luck going to sleep. LOL!
The Old Breed and the Costs of War | Eugene B. Sledge (1994)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsfgOcnoFZ8
“It has been said that the combat veteran has to live through the experience and then, if he survives, he has to live with it the rest of his life. How you handle yourself and what you make of yourself depends a great deal on your upbringing, your discipline, and things of this sort.”
Recorded at the Mises Institute’s “Costs of War” conference in May 1994 in Auburn, Alabama: https://mises.org/library/the-costs-war
Eugene Sledge (1923-2001) is best known for his books chronicling his experiences in the Pacific Theater during World War II: With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa and *China Marine: An Infantryman’s Life after World War II*.
Comments below the video:
“I drove to where Sledge Hammer was laid to rest 2-months ago and rolled down the windows of my truck and played the theme song to โThe Pacificโ series as my buddy and I put a Marine flag at the head of his grave and shed a few tears of gratitude to say the least. What a great man.”
“My mom had one brother who was a Marine in WW2. He fought on Iwo Jima at 18 years old and turned 19 before he was in the battle for Okinawa. He told my mom that he didn’t take his boots off for 30 days on Iwo Jima. He died in 2009. The Marines sent an honor guard to provide the military portion of his funeral. The Marines take care of their own!”
“I am always impressed by how Eugene B. Sledge kept his humanity, especially after it was over. We should All be so strong and resilient. Thank the Lord for men like Eugene B. Sledge.”
Glad to hear is was comfy enough again today.
We had steamy mid 80s due to a few showers scattered around. Not pleasant for running errands but at least I didn’t get caught in any rain.
I won’t have any trouble going to sleep tonight ... I hope. Sinuses gave me a fit all last night and I got little sleep. I’m bushed now. Checking on news a little while longer since I got to do none of that this afternoon.

I’m glad my 80s were less steamy, because I and the kitties have really enjoyed it not being in the high-90s or higher. Ugh. I’m sure that’s in our near future, so we’ll enjoy this while we can. Even without rain.
I feel myself sinking, too. I had supper and the Mexican rice made me sleepy. However, I’m not going to sleep till I’ve watched a few shows or something.
I’m going to be running out of something to watch before too long, though. Not much gets produced during the summer months, then I have too much in the fall and winter.
Thanks for remembering & honoring our Troops tonight, Galz!

Yeah, it’s only the middle of July so there’s a lot more HOT to come. Our warm up is beginning now and I d read sitting at the tent Friday when early voting starts. Will not be fun.
I hear ya on eating supper and getting sleepy. LOL I’m there, too, but it’s way too early to go to bed.
Waaaaaay too early. If I laid down now it would be called a nap, because I’d be back up in an hour ready to go.
Y’all do early voting in a tent, or y’all promote from the tent? Is there a way to have fans in the tent?
Gonna go get my shower. I should be back in about 30 minutes. Yes, I’m slow. LOL! So have fun and see ya in a bit.
Hiya luvie, typical July weather here, sunny and high 90’s, the A/C is working fine thankfully, did you ever find some ice cube tray flip-flops? ๐
No, the voting is done inside a building. Our tent is set up outside along with others. Some of the candidates have their own tents. Some show up and sit with us.
We’re there to promote the Republican candidates and have their signs set up by the tent. We answer questions people might have as best we can. And we always have patriotic items to sell or give away.
Sadly, there’s no way to get electricity for a fan where we all have to set up. We’re at the mercy of Mother Nature and pray for a breeze, or a cloudy day with no rain. I have a rattan fan that I take along and we all have coolers with drinks and ice. We can also go inside the building to cool off for a few minutes in the AC. Bathroom breaks are common. LOL
I take longer showers so you aren’t all that slow. Washing my long hair is what takes so long.
I might not be here when you get back. I just looked at the time.
No, I didn’t, but I haven’t stopped looking. ๐คฃ
It’s amazing that you’re that far north, and you seem to have similar weather to ours. Thank heavens for AC, right?
