VIDEO: 3 Lethal U.S. Drones Attack Iranian Sub, Port Facility
USNI ^ | 13 July 2026

Three Saronic Corsair unmanned surface craft were used in a Sunday attack on an Iranian port, U.S. Central Command announced on social media.

In the 25-second video posted Monday on X, the Corsairs approach an Iranian pier at Bandar Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz with what appears to be a Ghadir-class midget submarine suspended from a gantry out of water.

“Yesterday, using multiple one-way attack surface drones, CENTCOM forces successfully struck a submarine and ship maintenance facility in Iran,” reads the X post. “Three Corsair unmanned surface vessels hit the port at Bandar Abbas Naval Base, marking the first time American forces have employed sea drones in combat operations.”

A sub?

With all the bombs we dropped the last go-around I’m surprised there’s any targets left.

The Irano-Nazis had plenty of cash to spend on military infrastructure thanks to the pallets of cash Obama airlifted to them.

Two nations have lost submarines from combat within the last 8 months?

Why does anything like that still exist anywhere in Iran? That was a fully functional port facility. Why hasn’t it already been bombed and made useless?

There is a push to develop munitions and weapon systems that can leverage technology at lower cost so we don’t have to expend a $5 million dollar missile to defend against a $3K enemy weapon...and to avoid the issue of having ordinance, that is so expensive that it can’t be launched.

It is long overdue.

I had a revelation recently, for the past 40 years, I’ve been tied into the status of the military, weapon systems, retention, tactics, doctrine, readiness levels, all those things.

But amazingly (to me) I had completely dropped anti-shipping weaponry off of my watchlist. I had been paying so little attention to it for decades, when I saw something recently, it shocked me that I was so ignorant.

Specifically, as far as I knew, we were still using variants of the old Harpoon missile that came online back in the 70s, and for longer range, were using some specialized variant of the Tomahawk missile.

I figured the harpoon had been updated constantly to take advantage of various technologies and was still considered viable.

I was shocked to learn how much the Navy had neglected any real upgrades to the harpoon that would change the missile’s attack profile dramatically, and for sometime the missile had been considered obsolete, but there was nothing in the pipeline to replace it.

Of course, I understand that we did not have much use for anti-shipping missiles for a long time, especially not against any kind of peer enemy, so they were putting their money that they had to what they thought was going to be really needed. But still, I was dismayed to hear that the Harpoon was unusable for even that eventuality of surface to surface action. Actually, I was somewhat alarmed, rather than dismayed.

And then I heard about the AGM-158C LRASM, a weapon that still cost upwards of $3 million per unit, but took advantages of all kinds of technology (even including AI) and advances in munition and delivery technology.

The missile can be launched from everything from nearly every Navy plane and helicopter, a large array of Air Force aircraft ranging from the B2 to the front line fighter and attack aircraft, as well as the standard MK41 VLS capability on US ships and from submarines. I heard they are even trying to adapt it to the HIMARS system, presumably to set up anti shipping batteries from shore installations.

The missile is subsonic, stealthy, long range (sources say 200 miles, but I suspect the real range is between 200 and 1000 miles somewhere, probably about 500 miles) and is stealth, low-emitting using passive sensors, the AI can passively track electronic emissions and other types of characteristics, run it through AI to identify targets without human intervention, and assign target values appropriately. Even more interesting, is that the missiles can be launched from a number of different platforms to a certain area, and the missiles can talk to each other so that if five missiles were launched from different platforms, they wouldn’t all end up at the same target. They would communicate with each other so that perhaps two or three might go to a high value surface target, one or two to another, and any other missiles to other targets.

What I found really interesting was the acquisition process. The Navy realized that they had reached block off lessons with the harpoon, and it couldn’t be used in today’s hostile environments without putting the launching platform at risk, especially a surface ship that launched it.

So, it was an emergency situation, and they bypassed the normal defense acquisition process, and went straight to DARPA for a solution. The government got sued by the usual suspects (Lockheed, Boeing, etc.), but the suit was thrown out, and DARPA was allowed to proceed, and they designed this missile on time and I believe on or under budget.

This is the kind of thing we need.

Maybe you shouldn't uncritically swallow all White House propaganda.

Just a thought.

Other reports say it was a sub facility but no mention of actual subs.

Why can’t we use the waters bounding Oman in the Straight since that it not controlled by Iran. I saw something about the US protecting that corridor through the Straight.

On July 6, the IRGC struck three commercial vessels, including a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker, off Oman. Iran accused the ships of trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without its permission.

While not considered international waters, the shipping lanes around the Musandam Peninsula lie within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. I don’t understand why Iran thinks it controls the territorial waters of Oman.

They can launch various weapons across the entire width of the Strait. They don't think they can control it ... they actually can. And they will, until we ELIMINATE (not 'degrade') their ability to launch such weapons.

Hormuz in reality is not a straight Strait, since it has quite a bend in it. It's more like a curved Strait; perhaps it should be called the Curve of Hormuz.

Maybe you could quote some of that 'cheerlead', or maybe you could quit making things up.

If we were smart, we would be releasing a lot more footage of these things.

It's important.

You have to show results.

Ever since Vietnam the TV camera has been part of the war.

Winning in the Information Operations domain is (((NOT))) achieved through silence.
