We reported on the scary scene that unfolded in midtown Manhattan Tuesday when support columns at the former Pfizer headquarters skyscraper buckled and the building sagged. Mass evacuations were ordered as authorities worried the whole thing could come down. The property is being converted into luxury residences.

The situation has been stabilized for now, but there’s still the danger of a partial collapse, and portions of the building may need to be demolished.

LOL!!! Looks like the crem de al crem of Hollywood have been ripped off and now are stuck with multi $1,000,000 apartments that they can neither occupy nor sell. Could DEI have had a bit to do with this??? Afer all, back in the 1930s the Empire State Building was completed in about 18 months with no such troubles and back then all the engineers had was slide rules, tables, and manual calculators.

Pfizer can just take some of the money they got for the clot shot and pay all the apartment buyers back.

Developers and landlords who may one day find themselves in court in front of a New York City jury will face incalculable odds.

“Developers and landlords who may one day find themselves in court in front of a New York City jury will face incalculable odds.”

They even passed a temporary state law just to get Trump.

Somewhere there is a democrat’s hand or two (or more) in this mess. I smell liberal fraud.

Hopefully these ahole celebrities will wake up and realize that if you can’t trust a builder to renovate a building, you can’t trust government people to run your life.

I’m betting the construction firm was using cheap Chinese steel.

Low bidder.

Engineers used hefty margins in the 1930's. And the 1860's. The Brooklyn Bridge probably has a load margin of x2 and it managed to survive decades of neglect. By the '70's computer models were available, and not every contingency was accounted for. In addition, they were piling more floors on top, and while it might have withstood the new floors, perhaps it failed because of the construction equipment and ill-distributed loads of material on the upper floors. The computers model the more or less finished product, not a bunch of beams and concrete sitting in a corner and transferring the entire load to a few supporting beams on one side.

I’m still keeping my money on DEI firms that either skipped structural analysis for the extra weight and construction equipment, or DEI city employees and inspectors who ignore or didn’t require new analysis. A cubicle office is one thing. Luxury apartments are another.

Something as insignificant as building inspection is beneath the dignity of an Islamo-Communist mayor, especially when the only people to benefit are the “super rich.” Of course, since those creeps probably supported the Thing, they’ve fouled their nests and have to sleep in it. I’m desperately, desperately searching for my smallest violin.

I can't believe how biased people are against show business nitwits who were first in line to get the Pfizer shot and wore masks for two years to protect everyone! /rimshot

Mamdani, make sure you tax the hell out of those Hollywood tenants - so what if they can’t actually live in their apartment
