Brazen squatters infiltrate house of murdered Bay Area professor, mourning family says

A University of California, Berkeley professor killed in a violent custody dispute in Greece has left behind grieving family members and 11-year-old twin children, while his relatives now face a separate battle in California to remove alleged squatters from his East Bay home.

Przemyslaw Jeziorski was shot and killed in Greece in July during a custody dispute that turned deadly.

Authorities say the boyfriend of Jeziorski’s ex-wife later confessed to the killing. His ex-wife, Nadia Michelidaki, later died by suicide in a Greek prison in May.

Come to think of it, many of the current Democrat Socialists of America live in very nice, expensive homes. Let’s start the new Democrat Socialist Squatters of America. Squat in their palatial abodes. If they complain, put on some high heels and a dress, and accuse them of Transphobia.

Calling the police is the advisable first step when you find squatters. It documents the trespassing and sometimes results in immediate removal if they lack proof of residency.

However, if squatters provide fake leases or utility bills, police may treat it as a civil matter.

Squatter laws vary significantly by state, so local law enforcement involvement is heavily nuanced:

Documenting the incident: Filing a police report provides critical evidence of your efforts to remove the individual, which will strengthen your case if you need to pursue a formal eviction.

Potential for immediate removal: Some squatters who do not want to deal with the hassle of law enforcement may choose to leave. If the individual cannot prove legal residency, officers may remove them.

Transition to a civil matter: As noted by law enforcement and legal experts, if squatters provide falsified documents (like a fake utility bill or lease) claiming they are tenants, police are legally required to treat it as a civil dispute. In such cases, they will not remove the squatters without a court order.

Avoid self-help evictions: While it may be tempting to change the locks, cut off utilities, or forcibly remove them yourself, doing so can result in significant civil or even criminal liability.

If the police cannot remove them, you will likely need to serve a formal eviction notice or file an unlawful detainer lawsuit to legally regain possession of your property.

You’d think (in a sane world), you could file something that says (in essence) “This property is not for rent. It is to be inhabited by (names go here) ONLY”. As a legal defense against squatters. But I realize that it doesn’t exist in San Fran because the communists don’t believe in private property.

If someone anticipates leaving a property vacant for a period of time, consider signing an open ended lease with a relative you trust. Put a table and chairs and a made bed in the property, maybe some pots and pans in a dish rack and some boxes of mac and cheese. No money or move in will take place, but if a squatter shows up the relative can show up with the signed lease and present it to the police as evidence they are the legal residents.
