SNIP

China wants the fighting in Eastern Europe to stop right now. Beijing is issuing a clear, uncompromising command to both Russia and Ukraine. The message came directly from the United Nations floor. Sun Lei serves as China’s deputy representative, and he delivered his remarks during a recent Security Council gathering.

The Moscow Times reported that China is firmly demanding an immediate return to the negotiating table. Beijing claims it wants to guide the political process.

Lei held nothing back when addressing the packed room. “We strongly urge you to end the conflict as soon as possible. We also strongly urge you to resume talks, demonstrate real political will, and make every effort to address the root causes of this conflict through full and unconditional adherence to the principles of the UN Charter,” he said.

Heck, if China ‘demands it’, Russia must obey.

Who the heck do they think they are, a super-power or something?

And the message was delivered thru the UN, so, Putin had better listen. ;-)

China is jockeying for a looting position in what’s left of Ukraine, just like the EU.

Putin won’t stop until Russia captures all of Novorossiya which includes Odessa.

“It must be costing China something.”

China would like more Russian oil.

Gulf oil is not reliably obtainable in sufficient quantity.

If they said it in the U.N., they said it directly long before that.

China is Russia's only upstream ally, and they are providing them with the military hardware etc.

Russia ain’t the big guy, China is.

And China is who Russia has become “dependent” on after our sanctions.

https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2026/05/01/china-now-supplies-90-of-russias-sanctioned-tech-imports-bloomberg-a92662

That’s why the sanctions nonsense wasn’t going to work, no matter how awesome and self important some of the folks here thought we were.

Everything from computers, cell phones, clothes, home appliances, cars, or electronic components Russia needs even for their war machine, their most used drone on the forward battle space is DJI, they get from China.

Our sanctions didn’t work because China wasn’t on board.

However, the Russians turned to China and became near solely dependent on them. Dependence = leverage.

The only real winner in this war, in a HUGE way, was China.

China’s influence in BRICS, their market share in everything / across the board saw a huge rise in Russia (double, triple or more in total volume), they got awesome gas and oil deals. Russia being “dependent” on critical imports from China means China does have leverage, a lot of leverage at this point.

In fact, while all the doom and gloom experts here predicted China’s economy will slow growth or even decline, it is us and the West et al. that are likely slipping into a recession, and China will continue their march on with 5% annual GDP growth, largely fueled by Russia that NEEDS their products, in some cases no matter what (war machine).

https://www.jpmorgan.com/insights/global-research/economy/recession-probability Now predicted at 35%, it is likely much higher and even JP knows this, why they are laying off folks around the nation (2% of total workforce in their first go around) in investment banking and corporate divisions which get hit the hardest in such market turn downs... Example: https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/jpmorgan-chase-enacts-layoffs-in-plano/287-e3495187-b7b9-4822-b6b7-84c07d323856

Yes, this war in Ukraine was a disaster, even for us, in that it maneuvered our true #1 threat (China) into a far better long term position and it did very little for us other than burn up a lot of money.

You’re bandwidth is just to narrow to see it, at least a while back. Maybe you’ll start getting soon.

It cost China a lot.

Russia told them it wouldn't take long.

But the latest development hurt China. Ukraine has developed effective drones and drone warfare. It ended any chance China had of invading Taiwan (and other areas). They are very angry about that.

Have you looked at a map?

Also, you haven't been following the news lately, have you?

I think that China strongly disagrees with you. They are not happy that Russia got them into this, and hasn't had the success they promised.

But now they are downright furious. Ukraine has developed a drone warfare platform that is highly successful, and they are exporting it to Taiwan.

This platform allows the smaller power to equalize themselves, and it huts expensive navies.

Russia is getting their butt kicked right now.

Sounds like Russia is losing this war, and if President Trump wasn’t in office the USA would be doing all they could to not let this war end. If Russia’s economy fails, China has a much weaker ally. China is not willing to prop Putin up much longer it seems.

Russia still occupies 20% of Ukraine.

China is in deep negotiations with Ukraine on reconstruction contracts just like the EU.

China’s total goods trade volume grew from $4.85 trillion in 2020 to a record $5.24 trillion in 2025, cementing its position as the world’s largest goods trading nation.

What am I missing?

The Chinese are right on this one... it’s time to get to the table and end this horror.

Besides democrats need a corrupt country like Ukraine to launder their money and hire their drug addicted whore monger sons...

What are you basing this on?

“Russia is getting their butt kicked right now.”

Tell me, what metric, other than make belief casualties, is there to support that assertion.

—Ukraine's territorial losses
—NATO membership
—EU membership
—Inflation
—Currency value
—Debt
—GDP loss
—Difficulties in military manning
—Birth rate / refugees and what that did to demographics
—Comparing the size of GDP, population, manufacturing base of both nations
—Damage to infrastructure

There is not one metric that supports this.

Do you know the difference between a more fact based analysis and a mere perception that is created by lots of videos (nearly all one sides where Ukraine wins), use of hyperbole, hero stories (the Ghost of Kiev in 100 different flavors)... That's what happens when you get one side unfiltered and the other side is censored.

And no, I don't think China disagrees.

China decided to turn their back on our sanctions LONG after Russia went into Ukraine and it already was apparent that this was a “long war.”

We were still trying to sway China our way as late as June 2023: https://thedispatch.com/newsletter/morning/blinken-returns-from-beijing-empty-handed/

Why would China do this? In this “world order” we talk about, what you really have are rules and standards, international organizations all either created by us, or heavily influenced by us. A Western-pact where we are informally the leader. These are essentially OUR rules that we created or influenced over the last ~150 years. The US is still in military terms the big kid on the block, we control access to the resources and with our Euro, Aussie, Japanese and Korean allies are still economically larger than China.

In any sort of US-China relationship, the Chinese have to bow down to us, as we made/make them do all the time. Do what we want, or we put a tariff on your stuff (we just did this recently). Nope, we're not going to let your electric cars into our market because in reality we just can't compete and US car manufacturing would go extinct (aren't we allegedly all about free trade?). We're going to dictate to the Chinese who they get to do business with...

However, in a Sino-Russian relationship, it is China that has the upper hand, in every single respect except resources (which they are working on: Belt and Road - their outreach into Africa and the Middle East). This war not only pushed Russia into their camp, but catapulted China into a leadership role within BRICS etc.

Some arguments carry more weight than others: https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2026/05/01/china-now-supplies-90-of-russias-sanctioned-tech-imports-bloomberg-a92662 Do you realize how important this is? The Chinese have the Russians by the balls at this point and if the Chinese cut Russia off, all those wonderful things some here predicted would happen to Russia because of our sanctions, really will happen. It's not just to total volume of sales, but what is being sold to Russia.

Just a few charts / graphic examples:

Big picture: https://d39raawggeifpx.cloudfront.net/styles/16_9_desktop/s3/articleimages/0226_Russia_China_trade_turnover_Cropped.png (146 growth to 246 at its peak is a 68% increase in total trade volume)

Electric appliances: https://sceeus.se/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/figure3-png.webp

There is an irony in all of this. Russia went to war because they don't want to be our bitch. But now, they're China's bitch.

When all is said and done, Russia is massive in area and resources, but their population and economy while a major player on the world stage, is small compared to China and the US. We decided that we were going to gobble them up a while back. They can't stand up against us, and when they crawled into bed with the Chinese, they just got owned by them instead of us.
