Ohio Sen. Moreno to Reintroduce Former Sen. Harry Reid’s ‘Exact Bill’ Eliminating Birthright Citizenship for Illegal Aliens
Breitbart ^ | June 30, 2026 | Elizabeth Weibel

Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) shared that he would reintroduce former Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-NV) “exact bill” that would not only eliminate birthright citizenship for the children of illegal migrants, but also clarify who can receive birthright citizenship.

In a post on X, Moreno responded to another post from Fox News’s Bill Melugin, who shared that in 1993, Reid had introduced the Immigration Stabilization Act of 1993. Moreno stated that they would “see how today’s DC Democrats will vote when offered the ideas of the Democrat party that used to love” the U.S.

“I will reintroduce this exact bill when I return to DC,” Moreno said. “Let’s see how today’s DC Democrats will vote when offered the ideas of the Democrat party that used to love this country and the American people!”

Moreno also shared in a press release that Reid’s reintroduced bill, titled the Immigration Stabilization Act of 2026, would focus on making cuts to legal immigration limits, capping annual refugee admissions, and clarifying to whom birthright citizenship applies.

Why didn’t the repubs help him pass this in 93? Surely Reid could have gotten enough dems to support it. Something bad hidden in it?

Back in 1993, the vast majority of Republicans were more interested in cheap labor then immigration issues.

Per AI...

“A widespread number of nations rely on jus sanguinis, either as their exclusive policy or in combination with restricted citizenship by birth.

Prominent examples include:

European Countries

Italy: Operates largely unconditionally, allowing generations of descent for Italian citizenship provided there are no breaks in the lineage.

Germany: Uses jus sanguinis, but offers pathways to citizenship for children of foreign parents born in Germany who meet residency requirements.

Ireland: Grants automatic citizenship to individuals with at least one parent born on the island, and permits grandchildren of Irish citizens to apply via Foreign Births Registration.

Spain: Allows citizenship by descent and also provides paths for residents of former Spanish territories to naturalize.

Asian Countries

Japan: Operates on the jus sanguinis system under the Japanese Nationality Law, where a child is a Japanese national at birth if at least one parent is a Japanese citizen.

China: Confers citizenship at birth if at least one parent is a Chinese citizen, regardless of the child’s birthplace.

India: Grants citizenship by descent, with eligibility criteria often tied to registering the birth at Indian consular services abroad.

Other Notable Countries

Australia: Primarily operates on citizenship by descent or through Birthright Citizenship rules for children of permanent residents.

Turkey: Confers automatic citizenship to individuals with either a Turkish mother or a Turkish father.”

Interesting that AI left the UK out of the list.

On the UK, per AI and using a specific search this time...

“The United Kingdom largely relies on jus sanguinis (right of blood) for citizenship, allowing individuals born outside the UK to inherit British nationality if at least one parent is a British citizen. However, citizenship cannot automatically be passed down more than one consecutive generation if the parent was born outside the UK.”

IIRC, the UK’s was passed under Thatcher in ‘81 or ‘82.

Why would Thune allow this to get voted on, let alone passed? He hates America just as much as any card-carrying democrat.

At some point in the last 33 years, we would have needed a Republican White House, a Republican Senate and a Republican House.

Speaking of Thune:
The Senate is effectively in recess. But Thune is keeping it open pro forma.

This keeps Trump from making any recess appointments.

What the heck is going on with Thune?

EXCELLENT Idea. It won’t pass of course but it will force the Democrats to show their hand as the globalist party that is betraying America and American workers - not as the party of the common man that they used to be.
